The change in scenery every couple of miles is something special. It changes from green to desert to a moon like landscape in a relative short distance. Geologically this is a place where you could spend a few days without getting bored. For the photographer this area is paradise.Well worth the visit.

Well we have all seen these huge cacti in various 'western' movies and now here we here. On our trip from Salta to Cachi we passed by the Los Cardones National Park of Cacti.Beautiful, amazing & weird. Over 7-8 metres tall... many hundreds of these cacti, now in a protected area - just beautiful

If you want to travel in the "real argentina " go to cachi and to his "automobil club" ACA and go to their restaurant.Rent a good car because you still have some bad road, and you will arrive to the parque nacional de los cardones.the road itsel is a dream, be carefull you'll travel till an altitude around 3700 meters. At least a one day trip from salta or cafayate

it is a beautiful place to explore and take photographs. You can see the snowed peak of the Cachi mountain in the distance.

Lots of cacti and an old Inca road make this an interesting drive. There are travel stops with info in English signs to explain things.

Perched 3,400 meters above the sea, Parque Nacional de Los Cardones is a kaleidoscope of intense hues of reds, oranges, yellows, browns, blues and greens. The Cardon sentinel cactuses scattered throughout the park stand tall and proud, making for extremely compelling photo opportunities. To get to the park, one first crosses through the ruggedly attractive Valley Calchaquies, one of the best drives I've done in Argentina, before climbing high up into the mountains through a maze of roads snaking through highland plains and meadows. To get to the national park, either rent a car or take a tour. I did a tour with Turismo La Posadas, which was great. I didn't feel rushed and yet got to stop at many miradors along the way for really awesome photos. Our guide, Pablo, was funny and very entertaining and even sang and danced for us on the bus.Admission to the park is free.

What an amazing drive through the Parque Nacional to Cachi. The cardones (cacti) are incredible both in size, details and their vast number. We would have loved to see them in flower it must be a stunning sight. Condors fly overhead and Andes frame the picture.

This is a nice park with three lookout points and a lot of the huge cactus trees. But you can see these plants all over in this area of Argentina. If your way doesn't necessarily get you up into this park - you don't have to do the extra miles. Otherwise, it's a nice drive with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

The variety of cactus, the shiny contrast with the cloudless sky and the red mountains makes you feel like you are walking on Mars!

Located at about a 3 hour drive from Salta City, this National Park is quite unique in that it not only has spectacular views, but also a huge extension of land with large cacti. To reach this park from Salta City, you need to drive up the "Cuesta del Obispo", a windy mountain road with spectacular views. I strongly recommend it.Beware that before reaching Parque Nacional Los Cardones you will go as high as 3360 m (11,000 ft). The park is at about 2800 m altitude.
