We had not heard of Villa Ocampo before a friend recommended it to us and we took the time to go. Happy we did. Lovely well kept house with beautiful serene well kept gardens. It belonged to an Argentina's writer, Victoria Ocampo.Check website before you go for time and schedule. It is not opened everyday. When you get off at the train station of Beccar, go over the overpass. We made the mistake of going into the town, instead it's a nice walk in a residential beautiful shaded area.Very much enjoyed the house, grounds and the walk to get to it.

Nice and interesting place to visit, well kept house and garden. Short but interesting tour about Ocampo s life and work. I don t recommend the restaurant. Pricey, horrible food, terrible service and, as it happened to me several times while in Buenos Aires, the bill was wrong! Of course, they charged more, never less. When i pointed out the mistake, the waitress behaved like i was annoying her, never apologize and took a long time to bring me the correct bill. Unesco management should watch over these details.

This a very beautiful and serene environment, in contrast to the noisy city, and well worth a visit just for that reason. However, the engaging, guided tour also provided a fascinating insight into the social mores of another era, and how an amazing woman responded to those expectations. Lunch or afternoon tea on the veranda overlooking the tranquil garden is strongly recommended. If travelling by train from the City, simply get off at Beccar station and walk a few blocks up Uriburu (crossing Libertador) until you reach Elortondo. Check opening hours on their website.

Lovely Place to Visit in Buenos Aires. Visit their Facebook Site, to check the latest programms. This house is an Unesco Monument and Museum. Victoria Ocampo, was an Argentine woman, writter, and had a very interesting life. Born in 1890 - 1979She lived in Villa Ocampo, during part of her life, where she invited all the best artist from that period of time. From Tagore, Indira Gandhi, Bioy Casares, Graham Greene,Albert Camus, Jorge Luis Borges, Pablo Neruda, Albert Camus, and many more. You can visit all the house rooms, and the exquisit garden. In those days when Victoria lived in the house, the garden finished in the River (Rio de la Plata). It had a tennis court , and there is a famous picture with Victoria and Igor Stravinsky, I asked and the tree of the picture is no more in the garden. I highly recomend this place, and also dont forget to call and book your place to the cooffe bar. They have delicious cakes and sandwiches, and also champagne! You will feel to be in the Buenos Aires of 1930, with those lovely houses and gardens. Thanks to Victoria that she donated her house to Unesco, and also is considered an Historic Museum of Buenos Aires. Get in Love with this Great Place, that was visited by Great People from all the world. As Victoria said, the house should be opened to all the World!

Beautiful mansion. Take the guided tours, they are one-hour long and give you an excellent overview of Victoria Ocampo's times and life. Go to the shop and buy a "Sur" magazine, where all the brightest minds of that time collaborated and published. My experience with the cafeteria was really bad. Old dishware, waiters had their uniform dirty and untidy. Service wasn't very welcoming. So, if you get hungry, wait, and go outside.

You can easily take the train to Villa Ocampo and then walk about seven blocks until you get to what was once a center for both national and international artists of all sorts. Our tour guide was informative and engaging and the grounds are lovely. The gift shop sells books by the Ocampo sisters, some Sur magazines and such. There's a restaurant too, though I didn't eat there. A nice change of pace from the bustle of the city.

Victoria Ocampo was an amazing woman, writer, intellectual, described by Borges as "the quintessential Argentine woman". So her house has her energy and you can really feel it!and the surrounding areas are beautiful!! you can arrange a ride to tigre or to delta.
