Los Roques National Park, Venezuela, leaves something to be desired for the naturist/nudist. Most of my two days in Los Roques were spent, sadly, in shorts and not naked. The archipelago is populated by a fair number of Italian expats so it surprised me that women did not feel comfortable enough to go top-free. Men, of course, did go top-free. I have been told that you can make your way to desolate, uninhabited beaches but my wife, J, and I ended up on somewhat populated islands. We did manage to get far enough away from one set of beach-goers that I was able to skinny dip and free-hike and J was able to go top-free for about an hour. All-in-all, I am sad to report that if unless you enjoy wearing a saggy, wet bathing suit, then Los Roques is not worth visiting.

almost all of los roques is good for diving. drop the non divers at this lovely beach with a lot of sun tan lotion and head on out to a reef nearby for some of the most spectacular diving around

Another &*()ing beautiful Los Roques cayo, notable for great swimming beach, restaurants (it was Thanksgiving Day and we enjoyed our langosta very much), wonderful dogs who will adopt you for the day and keep you company by your ice chest (we wanted to take our new friend home but would never deprive him of his life on Crasqui, and clearly los pescadores of Los Roques take very good care of the dogs one finds on the beach!). Los Roques is for me the perfect vacation and Crasqui would be a highlight but for the fact that there are no lowlights.

About a 30 minute ride on boat from the Gran Roque, Crasqui has everything that a tropical island can offer: white sands, clear water and a relaxing environment. It is also a good location for kitesurfing and there is a beach front restaurant (foritas place) that serves delicious fresh fried fish.

Beutifull, unspoiled and inhabitated as it is part of the National Park.Only to be reached by boat to be rented at the main island Gran Roques, where you can find Posadas and small restaurants. At Craski you can stay only during the day and there is no shade.

Los Roques is a piece of paradise that set place in the Caribbean. Isolated from some of the more touristic lower antilles islands, it belongs to Venezuela by default, after being abandoned by the Dutch, who settled in nearby Bonaire and Curacao. Los Roques are wild nature, no big hotels, only small lodges (posadas) in the main island of the Gran Roque, some of them of very high quality and standards. The turquoise waters, the pelicans and seagulls, the white coral sands and the caribbean sun all come together to make this a very special place in the caribbean. There are so many islands to visit once you land that in low season you may be the only one visiting some of them. We go there whenever we set foot in the Caribbean, and love it every time a little bit more. Flights arrive there only from Venezuela to the small airport. Best is to contact a tour operator to help you from Maiquetia Airport (Caracas International) to the domestic terminal where you'd fly to this wonderful place on earth.

This island is about a 20 minute boat ride from the main island of Grand Roque in Los Roques. The cost is about 180 BsF for the boat ride including umbrella and chairs. It has gorgeous white sand beaches, extremely clear blue waters, some restaurants (apparently there are 3 but we only saw 1) and some snorkelling areas. You need to reserve your spot on the boat the previous day which you can do at the Oscars store right near the airport and the boat will leave around 5:30 and return around 4:30 or 5pm.This was definitely one of the nicer islands we visited and was much less crowded and quieter than Fancisqui. I would advise that if you're visiting this island that you arrange to have some food and drinks in a cooler which can be transported out with you. Since you're stuck there for the whole day it's nice to have some icy drinks on hand!A note on the snorkelling. I've read websites that describe Los Roques as having some of the best snorkelling areas in the world. You should do some research into where those areas are because we were told that Crasqui and Noronquises had the best snorkelling areas and when we arrived at Crasqui we were told to follow a path to the other side of the island which has great snorkelling. We followed the instructions and found the path, but I found the snorkelling to be quite average. There's definitely fish, and a tiny bit of coral, but don't expect to be blown away by the variety of life. Maybe we just didn't find the right spots or I've been to too many other amazing places for snorkelling :)
