This attraction is a good distance from San Gil and well worth the effort. Some guide books suggest cycling. It is a long way, hot, and the road is very potholed. To go by bike would be a long day trip and very tiring, a big mistake to try this unless you are very keen cyclist, have your own bike, and the trip is the raison d'etre of the cycle ride not the attraction. We were glad of our rental car.The falls are lovely. Be sure to take or wear footwear that you can get wet and take a copy of your passport. Just follow the road towards Charala and there is a prominent sign on your right. The falls reputedly get very busy but when we visited on a Monday in January the place was nearly deserted and all the better for that. Proceeding through the finca estate a person will appear and collect the entrance fee and point you in the direction of a path up the mountain. A pleasant 20 minute walk takes you to the foot of the falls. The shade and the spray keep you cool and there is ample opportunity to swim in the pool at the base of the falls.DANGER! The pool is effectively bottomless and it is easy to jump in but difficult to climb out. The rocks are sharp in places and very slippy. Children absolutely must be watched and anybody entering into the pool really should be able to properly swim. I'm a gung-ho sort of person but I could easily envisage anybody getting into difficulties here so take care and have a great time. When we were there there were no attraction staff present whatsoever and nobody to give assistance in any emergency. If you wish to rapell/abseil then you need to arrange this BEFORE you set off to the park. There was absolutely nobody there to arrange this on our visit so speak to Tourist Information in San Gil/ Barichara a day or two before you go to set this up if that is what you wish to do.

In 2010 I was there to do the 'torrentismo' (rappelling in a waterfall and last year, when I was there again, I spend my time in the water below and photographed my buddy doing the rappelling. The spot is great for both things. Spending some time in the flowing water at the bottom is very relaxing. If you have a stressful job and nature appeals to you this is the ideal spot to unwind with the sound of the falling water. There is also kind of a little lagoon at the bottom where you can swim. For the rappelling and other extreme sports we picked Planeta Azul this time who did a slightly better job than the activities operator from 2010.

If I could I would give it a 3.5 stars as did find it to be considered a very good attraction, but above average. Took a local bus to the entrance of the falls and it took abut 45 minutes from San Gill and 4000 pesos. I paid 7000 entrance and it was just a 15 minutes walk to the falls. I was lucky to be there earlier in the morning and was the ony one at the falls. I walked part of the way back to San Gil and really enjoyed the scenery. Worth a 1/2 day trip, but don't sweat it if you miss the falls. I've seen much better in Latin America.

You can go there by bus or taxi (cheap). Bring bathing suit and good shoes (or sandals) to walk 30 minutes.

I went when the water level was low, so the waterfall wasn't all that impressive but it was still a fun little hike. There are 2 trails, a boring one and a more fun one. Go up the regular boring one, and try to get all the way to the very very top; then follow the falls down the second trail, it's more fun.

The actual falls are very nice, cool water to refresh after getting there. The only thing (and reason why 3/5 rating) is that hostels encourage you to make the 25km trip there with a rented bike which is cool but they could warn tourist that the trip there is on a road with out any clear space for a bike, you are risking a bit in the road with by passing not so risk comprehensive truck drivers, flotas, motorcycles and cars. For some tourists which I passed as helped out on the way it was a horrible experience which they could have prevented. Just wanted to warn tourist without much experience on a bike.

One of the best attractions in the San Gil area. A pleasant walk up from the parking area reveals the huge waterfall and cascades. If you are brave you can bathe in the pool underneath the falls but beware the cold water temp and slippery surfaces. Very nice experience all round

Due to rafting and bike riding cancelled we decided to check out Juan Curry Cascada at the advise of the receptionist.Well worth it. Easy hike in for 20 minutes and then heaps of exploring to be had following the river down.Would recommend for a good day out, bring some lunch n book and your sortted!

These falls are incredible. There are some nice pools at the lower falls (follow the concrete steps), but even better follow the first branch which the people doing the rappel (abseil) take -- it is a branch off to the right and has a lot of rope work to help you up the possibly muddy trail.Take the #4 bus to Charala from San Gil to the falls (they run ~ 30 mins) and buy your ticket at what looks like a restaurant at the park entrance.

Many Colombian landscapes are gorgeous and not found anywhere else. If you visit this fantastic set of waterfalls be sure to stretch. You can practice torrentismo which is coming down from the biggest of the three falls. Please enjoy Colombia and go to Socorro Santander.
