Therealthingforsure

This is a crowded beach with way too many boat motors, people, venders, kids, dogs and lack of bathroom facilities. Good place to watch people and party, but would NOT make it my swimming destination.

Attractive malecon that is safe and that has lots to offer. We were there during New Year's so it was packed full of people. It is much better when less crowded. However, it is great for walking and taking in the ocean and people watching. Lots of restaurants, bars, and cafes as well. The western end is nicer than the eastern end. Overall, quite nice.

We went there for three days and two nights. Nice people and great views. Study up on your restaurants ...., please! There are many "BAD" places to eat there...., and "FEW" really good ones. "Smokin BBQ" is one of the best. The owner and his wife are always there. And, great food at a great price..., and an unbelievable support staff and a great view of the water.

Fun place to people watch. Activity for watching be sure to look both on the beach side and the restaurant/shop side. Great for a stroll day and night.

Not typical of the Pacific coast beaches in Ecuador, this area is just big-city, tourist trap location. Very crowded, small, dirty beach. Only good if your looking for a resort type of hotel stay.

It is not as polished as Guayaquil, but better than many. It has many little individual bars that have limited food and many have chairs out on the sand. All offerings are reasonably priced and usually good.

We began our trip in Quito. It took is a good 9 hour road trip through a "highway" that is nothing like one . The road goes through small towns that if there was a real highway made that was cross country you should make it to the beach in half the time and in safer conditions !! Once reaching Salinas there are many choices for food and lodging . We rented an apartment for a week at $1500 for 5 . Weather is great this time of year and on new year's eve the fireworks display and the burning of the "año viejo " is a tradition never seen anywhere else.

Beautiful malecon, the locals are not too educated. Expecting that any local will know where anything is, even the cab drivers, is a tall order. No one knows anything, even if you speak perfect Spanish. Be ready to find everything on your own.

The Malecon has all the hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions of any major resort town in the world. The main advantage is the many good seafood restaurants and the fact that it is only a $2 taxi ride to the less touristy hotels and B&B's on the edge of town.

This is the 'strip' below the high condos on Las Salinas where almost every building has a seafood restaurant below on street level. Great place to have a beer and people watch.
