Someone told us about the mangroves so we decided to hop on a bus and see if we could find it. The bus driver told us when to get off the bus. It was a wonderful experience. Our young guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Although he could only speak Spanish, we understood most of what he said. We helped him with English! Lots of birds and plants. Be sure to take the two hour tour, it's worth it

We took a couple of locals with us to help with translation. But not really needed and the very nice man that toured us spoke enough English for us to understand each other. He showed us how mangroves grow. We now have 3 that we picked up on the beach growing on our balcony. While the tide was not right for a natural canal ride, we still had a wonderful time. Very enjoyable side trip!

A beautiful exciting day! Francisco guided us through a canal through the mangroves. So much to see, hundreds of birds, crabs. Francisco was so pleasant & funny. He even kept the attention of our 3 year old granddaughter, as well as our 15 year old grandson. Thank you for a nice day!

This was an unexpected side trip for us and was a real treat. The guide spoke only Spanish, but this wasn't an issue as my daughter was fluent by that point of her stay in Ecuador. Our guide was so passionate about the work being done at the reserve that you couldn't help be caught up in it.He took us by canoe through the middle of the reserve and it was one of the most peaceful moments I have ever experienced.

We did a tour from the mainland to the Isla Corazon and it was amazing! It was very inexpensive, thrilling, and educational. I loved the natural canal that we went through! The tour guides were very kind and knowledgable. I highly recommend this.

Isla Corazon, a national mangrove reserve which is home to one of the largest colonies of frigates in the Pacific Ocean is a “must see” attractions in this area. It is not only very informative but a very unique experience ! National Park Guides for the actual tour by canoe are underemployed fisherman from the small community of Puerto Portovelo. While one can arrange for the tour directly from this community, transportation logisitics, and arrangements may be a little difficult for the visitor who is often short of time. You must enter the island at high tide in order to successful navigate the mangrove waterways, and high tides advance by one hour daily. 6:00 a:m or 6:00 p:m tours are not very popular. After carefully weighing the feedback from others who have taken the tour over the last several years, and the various options available our preference is to originate our tour from Saiananda. You then travel by Panga across the estuary to Puerto Portovelo.In Puerto Portovelo is the interpretive centre where you will see marine aquarium species most representative of the Chone River estuary, as well as an exhibition of photos and video to learn about the importance of the mangroves in the eco-system, and the community reforestation program. Without the mangroves our marine ecosystem breaks down ultimately affecting you at the top of the food chain.Then you will travel by motorized launch to the island where you transfer to a canoe to silently paddle over a kilometre of tunnels amongst the mangrove roots. A boardwalk trail leads to the middle of the mangroves where the native guides tell us about species of plants, crustaceans, molluscs, fish and other organisms that inhabit the mangroves. There is an 18 meter high observation tower, where you can see the full extent of the large mangrove. Over 60 species of birds await your discovery in the 60 hectare heart shaped island of endangered mangrove swamps located in the estuary of the Chone river.

A nice way to see Mangroves and thousands of birds. We took a cab to the reserve, then Francisco told us about the reserve. Francisco took us on a boat tour around the island to see it's many, many birds. Then we walked through the Mangroves along a wooden bridge. It was amazing! Francisco was both informative and amusing about the area. It was low tide when we went so we were not able to canoe through the cave/channel, so we will go back to do that. The price depends on how many in your group. Take a taxi there for $6 from Bahia, get the taxis phone number so you can have them return for you.

The Mangrove Reserve on the heart island or Isla Corazon, 15 minutes from Bahia de Caraquez, was an super half day trip. Very informative and impressive. I felt like I was in a Jurassic park of birds! I loved their reforestation and preservation program. You can organize a tour from the office Bahia Aventura in the city center. or what I actually did was got directions from staff at Bahia Bed and Breakfast.A must see if your visiting the coast in Manabi.

On a beautiful, sunny day in Bahia, we took a taxi and Francisco gave a glorious, informative tour. It began with a walk along mangroves and the shrimp ponds with explanation of both. We planted seeds into the mud of a new mangrove forest. Our water trek began by being motored over to the island towing a canoe behind. Once at the 1km mouth of the dense mangrove forest, we gingerly slipped into the canoe for our journey to the other side. Stunning birds of all kinds awaited our discovery as we slowly made our way through. The forest is a mangle of roots! At the other side, we were delighted by the thousands of frigate birds flying and nesting with their young along the tops of the mangroves. An absolute must do!

Muß man unbedingt gemacht haben ein wirklich toller Ausflug und Vogelliebhaber werden auf Ihre Kosten kommen. Auch die Fahrt durch die Mangroven mit dem Kanu waren sehr interessant und es gibt so einiges zu sehen.
