We saw this while on the tour bus, so there was no opportunity to get off and look it over. It seems out of place in a town such as this and having been built in 2000 makes it ever more of an anomaly. Since we were on the bus, we don't know the exhibit du jour, but honestly, I would not traipse back to visit it as a separate visit. The tour bus went to even higher vistas, where we were able to get the best shots of the city.

Puerta de la Ciudad is very popular in Loja and it has become one of the city's icons. Even though it is not that old, many tourists visit the place for pictures. Newlyweds have also made of this gate a place for pictures to remember. If you are in Loja, stop by and take pictures.

An iconic landmark attraction for Loja's visitors, the Spanish castle like structure is the northern gateway to the oldest city in Ecuador. At the merging of two rivers the charming entrance gate sets the stage for Loja's friendly residents, clean streets, and charm. On the north side are several bustling marketplaces serving fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, flowers, and artisan crafts. Climb the castle towers for a 360 degree panoramic view of the city. It houses a small museum, several small art galleries, and a cafe. Admission is free and the hospitality wonderful. Its character is handsomely illuminated in the evening providing a second photo opportunity.

Great place to get a really good view of Loja. This castle like structure also has an art gallery and a cafe upstairs. A must visit when you travel to Loja. Just a short walk from Parque Central.

If staying in the city, this is a nice 15 minute stroll. Not much to do there, just take some photos with the beautiful medieval style building. I recommend taking the 45 minute walk from the city center to Parque Jipiro along the river side, so you pass by the gates on the way. Its a great walk, andyou get to see several dimensions of the city along the way.
