The first couple of rooms have temporary art exhibits. The paintings that were there on our visit were fun and funny talks on classic paintings and some mythology. The rest of the museum is a hodge-podge of archeological pieces and Loja history, but regardless, it is all interesting. Not much is in English, but it is not difficult to figure out what the highlights happen to be.

My wife and I visited the Archaeological Museum today and were quite pleased. We took a taxi to the "Universidad Tecnica" and were dropped off at the top of the hill near the campus entry gate. The museum is right past the gate on the left side. Entrance to the pretty museum is free and we didn't even have to show our passport. There are three floors connected by a wide spiral walkway offering great city views. The many artifacts are neatly diplayed and well labeled, albeit in Spanish. One of the best museums in Loja. Afterwards, take the time to stroll around the campus to see all the beautiful murals on the buildings. A very pleasant day.

The museum is located on the campus of Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja which is in the northern part of the city. The entry fee is one dollar. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to view the artifacts and displays. All of the display information is in Spanish. While visiting the museum I would recommend you take a walk through the university campus. Most of the buildings are covered with interesting murals and artwork.
