As a retired professor of zoology, I was interested in volunteering at the Guayabillas Rescue Center where I spent 3 weeks in January 2014. I was privileged to work with Oscar and the dedicated and limited team who, with very little means and only the sporadic assistance of volunteers like myself, manage and care for the facility. In carrying out its humane mission this center also provides an educational venue for families, school children, and foreign visitors who come to the center to learn about the care and rehabilitation of the native and exotic species. I believe that anyone able to visit, volunteer, or otherwise contribute will find it both worthwhile and rewarding. Meredith Behr, Ph.D.

Located within city perimeter, this animal treatment center has a huge reason for being - to rescue, protect and treat animals at risk. However, the apparent difficulty in raising funding and volunteers make it less attractive to the visitors center.

My boyfriend and I volunteered at the Rescue Center for a couple of weeks spring 2011. As far as I understood, there was/is not much help to get from the Government and there are very few funds supporting Animal Rescue in Eduador even though the need for it is huge. But there is absolutely no doubt that the families behind the center LOVES the animals and spend all there time on improving the center and the conditions. We stayed with Oscar and his amazing familiy and we where impressed by the effort these people put into this Center. It is not an ostentatious Center and there is a lot of work to be done, but they DO whatever they can with the money they get. We thought is was an amazing experience and we would without a doubt volunteer there again. They need all the help they can get and thank god for loving and helpfull people like Oscar and the other employees!

I had tears welling up in my eyes at the sight of a pair of lions in a concrete pit about the size of an Olympic size swimming pool; there was a sad looking condor in a cage no taller than 12 feet; a couple of wildcats in a pitifully small enclosure... How dare they call this a Rescue Center -- it's more like a prison.

Es una pena que la Ilustre Municipalidad no pueda financiar una de las atracciones de Guayavillas como es el Zoológico donde existen más de 3500 animalitos inclusive leónes a pesar de que se han dado sugeréncias para que se pueda financiar la alimentación y otros servicios del zoológico. su traslado paréce inevitable, de todas maneras el bosque de Guayavillas es un lugar donde se respira aire puro y sobvre todo se puede realizar camping y disfrutar de la naturaleza.

Buen lugar para salir a la naturaleza. Que pena que vayan a tener que cerrar. Van a evar a os animaes a otro centro de rescate. Habia hasta leones en el lugar. Pero bueno espero que esten mejor estos animaitos en el nuevo lugar

el acceso con niños pequeños es difícil, pero su sendero es hermoso, los animales estan bien cuidados, lo triste es que cierran en febrero la autoridad local no los apoya y ellos se auto financian, su acceso limita visitas

Muy bonito la naturaleza es divina y el rescate de los animalitos es una buena obra ,es importante el valor que se debe dar a las diferentes especies

El Centro de Rescate Guayabillas es un sítio cercano a Ibarra a unos cinco minutos del Barrio La Victoria.Es un lugar donde encontrarás espacios libres para cámping, rodeados de líndos bosques, donde puedes disfrutar con tu familia o amigos .Puedes trasladarte en vehículo o puedes realizar una caminata para completar tu ejercicio físico.El costo de entrada es de 2 USD. y existe lugares adecuados para parqueo de vehículos.Cuenta además con un Zoológico que tiene una gran variedad de ejemplares la mayoría de ellos rescatados.Existe lugares adecuados para compartir un azado o una deliciosa parrillada a tu gusto y preparación.

Estuve hace dos semanas en Guayabillas, el lugar es excelente para relajarse, disfrutar de la naturaleza y demas. La reserva cuenta con lugares para acampar, puedes llevar tus propios alimentos para cocinarlos y disfrutar de una parrilla al aire libre.Volvere al Centro de Rescate Guayabillas!!
