I have been here more than once, two years apart. The last time was no better than this time. There are some lame and only a few rooms where they have mannequins showing the process of hat making including the reeds, etc. Along one wall, there is one man running a machine though there were multiple machines. He did not speak English, so I could only guess at what he was doing. He put a hat upside down into a metal mold. He then placed what looked like a circular strip of leather around the brim of the hat. The machine was closed, allowing it to steam for a few minutes. When the hat was removed, it looked identical to its appearance before going into the machine.Basically, this is a sales showroom with hundreds of different hats in various colors. Two years ago, my spouse bought one. He was told he could roll it up in his suitcase to bring home. When we arrived home, the hat never regained its shape. Read the labels as many state to avoid rain too. Fun to try on the hats, but there are better places to learn about them. Google it.

Si bien el museo es a la vez fábrica donde se termina la confección del sombrero, entretejido por las cholas cuencanas del campo, en la visita no se presiona para la venta, y se relata toda la historia de los sombreros, mal llamados de Panamá, ya que son absolutamente ecuatorianos. Nos muestran también el trabajo de los obreros, los moldes con los que se le dan las distintas formas, también allí se hace el teñido o diseño. Se exportan a diferentes países son muchísimos los turistas que van en su busca hasta allí. La Unesco lo considera como patrimonio cultural inmaterial de la humanidad, por la transmisión de su confección, de generación en generación. Muchos famosos lo han lucido, como Julia Roberts en Mujer Bonita, Marlon Brando en El Padrino, Brad Pitt, Sinatra. No podemos pasar por Ecuador sin traer uno.

Muy lindo lugar donde se puede observar las máquinas y el trabajo que realizan. También se pueden comprar sombreros y se pueden probar por talles. Ante cualquier consulta, el personal está muy dispuesto a ayudar.
