Cost of the museum is $5 and service from the lady at the visitors information centre was gold. Don't miss the Ceramic Mural next door - great community project reminiscent of Gaudi's Parc Guell in Barcelona! Who would have to thought in rural Victoria!

This is a lovely little museum which entertained the family for a pleasant couple of hours. The Ned Kelly exhibition is very informative, and we really enjoyed the costumes and the toy exhibition. Staff were very nice and very helpful.

Ned Kelly exhibit was great with lots of original artefacts. Also had a drum from battle of Waterloo which is a bit of a surprise to find in country Victoria Only a fiver to get in.

This is a small and nicely positioned museum on the banks of Lake Benalla. One half of the museum houses a display of frocks and gowns which I'm sure would be very interesting to some, but not me unfortunately. The other half is primarily dedicated to the Ned Kelly story - although there are other unconnected displays. The Kelly story begins with a 10 minute video which accurately sets the scene and leads to a small collection of artifacts. The prize exhibit (and this alone is worth the $5 admission) is Ned's highly valued cumberbund. This was presented to him by a grateful Mother after Ned, at the age of 10, saved her son from drowning. So treasured was this item that Ned wore it at the Glenrowan siege. This is a must-see for Kelly devotees.

Small but compact museum with a prize piece the famous bush ranger Ned Kelly's blood stained scarf and other Ned memorabilia. Benalla figured large in the Ned Kelly story. Also they sell some beautiful Australian gifts. Friendly knowledgeable staff.

This is a well set out museum specializing in costumes, Ned Kelly (the famous green sash); local war heros ("Weary Dunlop" and Capt. Hec Waller), and a miniature house. Current special exhibitions include children's toys and lace dresses

The location by the water is lovely, and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The highlight for us was the Ned Kelly section of the museum. Firstly, you enter a small room and watch a 10 minute video presentation on Ned Kelly. Then you can explore the exhibits. This includes a mobile gaol which Ned Kelly was said to have spent time in. Inside this small building is a comprehensive display of Kelly artefacts including what they believe is his revolver, and the most moving piece of Ned Kelly's personal property, his green and gold sash that was given to him by a grateful family after, as a boy he saved their son from drowning. It became one of Ned Kelly’s most treasured possessions, and he wore it when he was shot and captured at Glenrowan in 1880. It remained in the family of the doctor who kept it after removing it from Ned while attending to Kelly’s wounds after his capture. It was recently surrendered by the family and is now displayed in a glass cabinet. It is a truly emotional piece to view, especially as it is still in the state it was when it was removed from Kelly, blood included. There are many other photos and items to view, and all very worth it. The final item on display is a prison door. It’s what this door was used for that is as disgustingly repulsive now as it was when it was used for the barbaric act. I’ll say no more. For true Kelly devotees, you can visit the Benalla Cemetery which is only a few minutes away from the museum. In the far right corner under a lone pine tree, you will find the grave of Joe Byrne; Ned Kelly’s best friend and lieutenant of the "Kelly Gang". This is also a very emotional site to visit. Ned Kelly’s remain were reburied in 2013 in the Greta Cemetery in an unmarked grave beside his mother.Meanwhile back to the museum. Aside from the Kelly exhibition, there are several other display areas, a shop area where you can purchase a range of items and souvenirs, and to finish there is a little room where anyone is free to make themselves complimentary tea or coffee, a nice touch.

Great introduction to the region's history, including Ned Kelly connections. Friendly staff, great location by the bridge/river. Essential stop when you arrive in Benalla. Next door to a playground and the local pool, too, so why not give yourself half a day.
