This is a brilliant walkway stretching the length of the seafront. There are lots of access points and also you can branch off and follow shady paths along streams.

I had the pleasure of doing this walk when I was down in New Plymouth in December. It was conveniently close to our motel. The coastal walkway is a long and mostly wide concrete footpath that is suitable for both walking and cycling. It is fairly flat so should be fine for all ages and levels of fitness. I didn't walk the full length as it's almost 13kms. Part of it runs close to the beach and part of it in inland a bit. The highlight for me was the Te Rewa Rewa Bridge. It's shaped like a wave or apparently the skeleton of a whale. Whichever it is I think you'll agree that it's a very well designed bridge. On our walk we also passed a campground. Some of the children from there were cycling on this very safe path with not a car in sight. Definitely worth a look the next time you are in New Plymouth.

Most enjoyable . Our Probus group only walked on part of the walkway - but it was great. Especially enjoyed the Len Lye Windwand.We took the bus up to the Bridge - What a sight -It was my favourite part of New Plymouth.What ever you do in new Plymouth - dont miss it. Of course it was a perfect day with the Mountain standing tall for us to see. Even if the cloud is down- the bridge is worth seeing in its own right.

The boardwalk is such a great facility and very user friendly for walking, biking, scooting etc and runs along a beautiful coastline.

Need to watch out for cyclists who appear to give the opinion tht they own the Walkway. Na easy walk at what pace you feel comfortable with. The surf Club good for a drink/food along the way.
