Beautiful grounds built wonderfully into the hillside while meandering down to a pasture and scenic river. Great place to see autumn foliage in Taranaki.

This is a home constructed in 1932 and set amidst beautiful manicured gardens which are now very mature. The history of the family who built this as their home is fascinating. There is quite a bit of incline in the park.....so be ready for that.....particularly if walking all the way to the bottom to see where the original pony stables existed. The house is not always open.....but if it is be sure to take a tour. The rooms are recreated with original belongings. Really a gorgeous setting. There is no fee to enter.

Great gardens, views and house. Volunteer who showed us round house knew his stuff and made this historic house interesting.

The Taranaki area is surrounded by and contains the best gardens in the world. This one probably ranks second after the enormous garden of Pukeiti. Spend the day and get lost in the magic of art with plants, flowers, and landscape.

Anyone going to New Zealand should seriously consider going to New Plymouth... it has much to offer the tourist. One of the most remarkable is 'Tupare'. The old homestead and fabulous gardens are a 'must' to see. Be prepared to spend some time taking in all these gardens have to offer, from massive trees, to wonderful delicate gardens, to the stream running through the lower part of the property! The paths are in excellent paved condition, but wear comfortable walking shoes, as some of the paths are a bit steep, and there are some steps to negotiate, if you want to. There are also printed signs with stories of the family who built the homestead and gardens.

How lovely to stroll around this gracious garden - paths meander between lofty Kauri, (and others), seats for the ponderers, super little summer house to stop for a picnic, views out over the river and then down beside the river, an all seasons delight.

This homestead and gardens is a must. You enter from the road and walk down to the house which is in a picturesque setting. the last time I visited here all the flowers were out but any time of the year is a good time to visit. A small stream cascades down the hill and a pool has goldfish in it. The house is only open to visit at certain times and I suggest that you find out when it is open for a conducted tour as it is worth seeing how people lived in this lovely house.

Even though I have lived in Taranaki all my life, I have never been to this wonderland until this year. I was totally blown away and felt like I had stepped into a fairytale. The view, gardens and the house are just beautiful. It is well worth doing the tour of the house and if I could - I would move right in within a heart beat. So much history - well worth a visit.

Did not know this park was here and only found it as a friend used if for their romantic wedding and was impressed. Did not see much of the park as otherwise engaged but saw enough to want to come back again and do it properly. Its so close to the Centre of New Plymouth that its worth the effort to find it.
