The walk to the end of the wharf is amazing with the waves crashing against the cliffs which eroded a bunch of interesting caves..wonder how many years it will take for the caves to change hmm..saw the news that a tourist drowned after jumping of the wharf for fun, only do so if a strong and confident swimmer. encoraged by the fact that ladders are installed.

Such an interesting landmark and so glad my Airbnb hosts suggested the hours drive out from Gisborne. Drive was through some lovely rolling hills and farming land. The walk to the end of the wharf is amazing with the waves crashing against the cliffs which they have eroded and created some interesting caves. So glad that the wharf was restored as it would have been awful to lose such a historical icon.

Worth the detour from the main road. We stopped to visit the historic wharf and saw many people swimming and surfing in the water. The wharf has been well restored with information boards telling its history.

There's not a lot in Tolaga Bay but it's definitely worth a stop for the wharf. Whether you're into the history of the area, or the views, or simply the pleasant stroll to the end and back it's a pleasant way to occupy half an hour. There's a nice picture board at the entrance explaining some of the interesting history including the efforts to restore the wharf - although clearly work remains to be done, with significant deterioration still to be dealt with.

We popped down to the Wharf after completing the Cooks Cove walk. The weather had just started to brighten up so it made the walk along the 600mt long pier ( wharf). Interesting history and stunning views all around.

This massive, 660m wharf was built between 1925 and 1929 and was an engineering feat of its time! It was used until 1968 and at that point began to fall apart. In 1997 a local group started to raise funds and begin restoration work. Since then over $5.5 million has been put back into it.Its a nice walk out to the end of wharf, where you can watch locals fish, or view various seabirds soaring on the breeze. Don't forget your camera!

This place is my favourite place in the world!!!! Great camping spots, great for swimming, fishing, jumping off the wharf, best pies from Cottels cafe, a place to escape from crazyness and to be at piece with your self and earth.

Nice to see some nz history being worked hard to be kept alive. I loved the big write up at the start of the wharf. Highly recommend checking it out.

Choice part of nz History, loved the walk and photo opportunity. Great to place to get the adrenaline pumping jumping of a 10m warf into the refreshing blue waters of Tolaga bay.
