During our Lagoon Cruise with Captain Fantastic (Kia Orana), we stopped here and were led on a brief jungle walk. We saw a few different species of beautiful seabirds and saw old mahogany trees; we learned about the different uses of the hibiscus plant; and were told the legend of a Cook Islander and his daughter hiding in a cave on the island to escape their enemies. Very cool spot!

This small desolated island is a really nice visit if you are on one of the lagoon cruises or boat charters. Only thing is that almost all of them visit so it can get a bit crowded at times.Beach is really nice sand bar and pending the tide it goes our quite far. This island was the place where 2 reality shows were filmed. One was called Shipwrecked and the other Survivor. One made by Brittish BBC and the other by American TV but both a copycat of the Swedish reality show Expedition Robinson (Since 1997) which unfortunately has not yet made a season in Cook Islands. The island itself is like a controversy, beautiful beach on west side and volcanic rocks on the east side. There are numerous birds on the island and they seem not to be very afraid of humans.

Pictures do not do the justice of the beauty. This is the island where Survivor and Shipwrecked (British reality show) were filmed. We visited this place unplanned by Aitutaki Adventure tour. Since we had the time the captain decided to stop by. He also told us all about the Survivor production when they came to Aitutaki in 2006. Interesting stories! Thank you Captain Puna. The water was so blue and clear, unbelievable. There were a lot of coconuts and crabs. Those were that they ate in Survivor...ha ha...This uninhabited island just so beautiful. I began to question if those Survivors really suffered or had an awesome vacation on this island. I began imagining myself as a Survivor contestant while I was there. Not too bad, all I need is a hammock, a coconut drink, island fries, mosquitoes repellent, an outside shower, and a flush toilet. ha ha....yeah, how many contests I have to win to get all that. One Foot Island is more beautiful but if the tour come and visit, this is not to be missed.

Love the lovebirds and the coconut crabs! The lovebirds had babies when I visited who still had their fluffy hairs and it was so easy to get amazing photos of them as they weren't afraid of people.

Words and photo's can't do it justice. Heaven on Earth. Water is so clear you can see the bottom even 1 km out in 20m deep.

Moturakau is one of 22 islands within the Aitutaki atoll and is visited by most of the lagoon tours. This uninhabited island has been used in the filming of Shipwreck, a UK reality show, and Survivor: Cook Islands, a USA reality show, among others. We visited this island for about 45 minutes as part of the Vaka Cruise lagoon tour during our Air Rarotonga day tour to Aitutaki. It was wonderful to explore the beautiful, deserted palm covered island and it beaches thinking about what it must have been like for the reality show participants. Like everywhere else within the Aitutaki Lagoon, this is stunningly beautiful and would rate a five anywhere else in the world but it does not quite match One Foot Island and some of the other Aitutaki locations so I have rated it a four to provide some differentiation.

Beautiful little island with large trees and a trail across to the other side.....in an absolutely stunning lagoon. The chooks would be hard to catch!Great GT swimming in the shallows as we came ashore......Well worth it and a great palm tree over the beach to climb on the south western side!

We stopped here when on a lagoon cruise with Bishops and as with all the islands we stopped at, it was beautiful and all we left behind were our footprints.

We visited an walked the island abit. Just beautiful. Felt a little connected in a way. Was told a little history and as always I love the cultural aspect. Moturakau is a place I will never forget.
