I have been meaning to visit this place for a couple of years. Being in Canada, we are limited as to the roses we can successfully grow with limited attention. I figured they would be the best people to advise. Friends were going, I tagged along. So glad I did! Late in the season, so only a few bloomers, but the gentleman who showed us around was a fountain of information, and I only wish I had had another hour to spend listening to him talking about the history of roses. Who knew!? I am always amazed by people who devote themselves to such a labour of love....they will never get rich from visitor fees and I have my own large garden, so I can only imagine the time they must spend weeding, dead-heading, propagating etc. I will go in June next year to see all those bushes in bloom! And yes, I not only got advice, but went home with three roses that should live thru our winters and bloom often! And as our daughters are both marrying this year, I also bought some romantic rose products to put in a basket for each of them and will add that to my dried cranberries and maple syrup.

The variety of the roses are pretty much. But the season is a little bit late. Should go earlier. So, the flowers are over blooming.

We liked our visit. Interesting to see how taking care of nature makes things wonderful. People working there were friendly.

The following is an email I sent to the reviewer but she has not replied.I'm very sorry that you were disappointed with your visit to our gardens. We obviously failed to tell you about the spirit of the site. Yes we are low tech, organic, energy self sufficient and very respectful of the environment. For example, the toilets are the composting type which we built to replace rented chemical toilets. (I agree that doesn't make for impressive, but certainly better for Mother Nature)In seven years, we have turned a cow pasture on my fourth generation farm into a 4 acre garden without any government help. It's meant a lot of sacrifices for my partner and I.Should you ever come to the area again, please drop in. I'll be glad to give you a free guided tour with appropriate details."Since then, I've looked at this person's other reviews and can see trend developing. I console myself with thousands of other satisfied visitors, being named ":Garden of the Month" by the Faculty of Horticulture of the University of Vermont, described as unique in Canada by the Tourisme Association of the Eastern Townships, and winning the Grand Prix du Tourisme Award in the Durable Tourisme Class. By the way, from our gardens, you can see 50 miles in one direction and 30 miles in the other direction.The invitation to the reviewer is always standing.

Fin juin et déjà tout en fleurs! Belles découvertes dans les rosiers.Rien d'extraordinaire mais intéressant.Si vous passez par là à voir, visite d'environ 1 heure.Sinon ne vaut pas le détour...

Je suis d’accord avec ce que ce visiteur écrit, mais je dois m’expliquer. Au moment de son passage nous étions fermés. Un printemps très tardif et des pluies constante nous a obligé de retarder l’ouverture d’une semaine. D’ailleurs les marchées publiques de la région ouvre une a deux semaines plus tard cette année (2014). La semaine après sa visite, la météo c’est amélioré, nous avons fait les travaux qui s’imposaient, et la floraison a débuté. Le printemps froid n’a pas que fait du tort, il a aussi fait du bien. Comme la floraison des rosiers hâtif a été retardé, ils fleurissent a même temps que les rosiers suivants ce qui une occasionne une floraison abondante comme rarement vue en ce moment (22 juin 2014). On doit vivre et travailler avec ce que la nature nous impose.C’est toujours triste pour nous de voir un visiteur désappointé. Si jamais cette personne peut revenir, il me fera plaisir de lui donner un tour guidé personnalisé.

L'endroit était peu fleuri a priori. Nous avons décidé de ne pas payer pour visiter le site et nous sommes contentés de la boutique. Les produits vendus étaient bas de gamme (ex. cadres décoratifs ou cartes de souhaits qui avaient l'air d'avoir été fabriqués par des enfants avec des collants du Dollorama...)
