My boyfriend and I had dinner here when we were staying in quebec. Be sure to contact them ahead of time as I believe they do individual dinner reservations only when there is a group booking as well. The price was very reasonable. The food was wonderful! The maple whiskey I had with the pork cracklings would have satisfied me all by themselves. It is served family style: ham, baked beans, boiled potatoes, pork cracklings, beets, slaw, meatballs, meat pie. Pancakes for dessert! It was all fabulous and the nice ladies kept offering to bring us more food! There were 2 groups there and they were on one side of the hall while we were on the other side and a stage was in between. There was another couple there as well but they were seated at another table. This was nice as it let us have our time together. There was live traditional music throughout the dinner. Eric was wonderful! Very entertaining and engaging. Once dinner was over he got everyone involved by playing the wooden spoons. The he managed to get some folks out there and teach everyone a traditional dance. Everyone seemed to have a great time. After dinner you can go to the little shop and purchase all things maple, as well as some other local things. Rose gave a tour of the maple processing area and gave historical and nutritional information on maple syrup. It was very interesting. If you are able to arrive early you can walk around the maple groves. The last thing as you are leaving is maple taffy on snow. Crushed ice is put out, maple syrup is poured on it and you roll up the hardening syrup on a stick. Delicious! The Chemin du Roy was about 30 minutes drive from the old town in Quebec City and very much worth the drive. It was fun, informative, delicious and very inviting. It felt a bit like being welcomed into the home of someone local.

We just stumbled across this lovely maple syrup producer. A nice young lady gave us a guided tour around the place and explained in detail how the different products are made. Very informative. Best place if you want to buy some maple products. Their maple butter is delicious! We can really recommend this place.

We visited the Erabliere Chemin du Roy as a special group, where we were treated to an excellent time! Great food, entertainment and an invitation to interact. They brought out a basket of 'musical spoons' and the fiddler taught us some basic rhythms to play. He then fiddled and we all clacked away -- it was a blast! We also learned about the industry itself, which is fascinating. We learned that Québec produces over 85 percent of the world's maple syrup, which equals 93 percent of the Canadian production. (Source: Québec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food). I had no idea it was the prevalent in QC with many more producers than I would have guessed. If you've never done the 'maple taffy' on the snow, I think it's one of those simplely must-do Canadian-experience. The location was very convenient from Quebec City.

Sugar Shack - Érablière le Chemin du RoyThis antique style establishment is located near the Saint Lawrence River and takes its name from the ancestral road that runs through it. Approximately 14.8 km’s – 15 minutes from Hotel Universel - Quebec City.It was early-April when we visited this homestead-style Sugar Shack as an optional night tour run by ATI MotorCoach Tours at $42.00USD... It is cheaper if you do it yourself. And although spring had arrived early this year to see the actual syrup from the tree; we were not disappointed as the grove glistened with a light blanket of snow under moonlight. This sufficed for those of us from the tropics... The contrast from Palm trees to Maple Grove was enchanting.Upon welcome in the Grove your Hostess narrates a short history about the traditional process of making Maple Syrup inside the Sugar Shack. You will notice that this is by no means a high brow establishment, but a pure rustic authentic building museum with old-fashion tennis racket skis as I call them etc.The traditional Quebec 'camp meal' (Maple Syrup flavoured cuisine) was plentiful. As you can always request more for the table after the initial spread is arranged. All of this was set to the tune of traditional folk music entertainment, puppetry and, later audience participation in dance. Here you can order and try a Maple Syrup flavour beer from the bar and if you forgot to purchase anything cheaper through Customs there’s a gift shop where Maple products are sold, ready to take your USD and or Canadian Dollars. The evening ends outside with Maple taffy on snow to leave you with a memory forever etched in your heart and travel. Especially since I forgot my camera! We hope our review has been of help and assistance…Your Australian :) TravellersANGIE4124P.S. If you’re opposed to having a Tour and Lunch/Dinner (2-3 hours), there is NO Fee that I am aware of to enter this property for a quick visit (<1 hour).
