It is a lovely old home on beautiful grounds. It is accessible from the Chateau Montebello grounds. Make sure you have bug spray on if you explore around it - you will get bit!

It was marvelous! Why is it so few Canadians know about it and why doesn't Le Chateau Montebello promote it to its guests!!!From the chateau it's about a 2 minute walk to the Manoir - I'd say it's on the same property but perhaps not. The Manoir is run by Parks Canada. Anyways, a most beautiful elegant home - the lower floor that you see is furnished in many originals owned by the family. The guided tour costs about 7.00 and is worth so much more. You learn about the social mores of the time, the political connections of the Papineaus, etc. the gorgeous dumbwaiter in the dining room is to die for. I will try to time our next visit so that we can take High Tea the way the family would have enjoyed it. We're so glad that we accidentally found it on one of our walks - I still can't believe that it isn't actively promoted.

This was a tour of the main floor of the Papineau manor. The main floor is restored to what it would have looked like when the Papineau's lived there with 80% of the original furnishings (other 20% are supposed to be replicas). The guide was so knowledgeable and interesting. I found it fascinating to get a peek in this historical home and listen to the stories our guide was telling us. We were staying at the Fairmont Montebello for a few days so it was a fun way to pass some time while there.

I would not go out of my way to go to Manoir Papineau, but the surroundings are nice and Montebello is a nice stopover area if one needs to take a break on their way to Montreal or Gatineau/Ottawa. Buildings are well preserved, nice short walking trails, some animations. Probably much better when they are hosting special events

The visit was very enjoyable. The admission price was cheap and the setting was beautifull. I learned a lot.

It was interesting to learn a bit of history during our recent visit to Montebello. Walking the grounds was enjoyable.

It's an interesting old manor to see, and we very much enjoyed walking around the grounds. However, in the grand scheme of things, there are more interesting historical sites to see.

My family lived and worked at the Manoir for 6 months in 1952. As new immigrants from War torn Italy. My father was the Chauffeur and my teen sister worked at the manor. We lived at the Gate house. As for the little church on the grounds I received my lst communion the day the Bishop came to consecrate the Chapel. We attended the one room schoolhouse at Montebello for 6 months before we moved to Montreal. We always called the owner of the Manor Messieur De Notembar who knows anything about that family? The son worked as a Banker in NYCity and would come to visit. Father was in charge of picking them up at the airport.

The manor house did not impress me despite the articulate English-speaking guide who took the time to escort us when there was a large French group there. Sadly, Parks Canada has opted to cut jobs to save money! This site should be fully restored, and the Chateau Fairmont should consider reemploying the fired workers, and dress them in appropriate costumes.

Upon arriving, we sensed that it would be a great experience. Not unlike a great-house. After a long and somewhat pleasant walk through the woods, we finally arrived at the main manor only to notice a tour entering the house. We find out inside the office that we needed to arrive early to join the tour and, even though they had just started, the person in the office would not let us join that tour and that we would have to wait over one hour (no self guided tours allowed).Unless you call ahead, good luck getting to see the main house. If you speak only English... Tough luck. There are only 2 tours available per day. The staff working the office is less than friendly and not very helpful. Also BEWARE of tons of poisin ivy along the path leading up to the house. Parks Canada did not bother removing these but rather erected a sign. Nice effort guys. The other houses that we could visit ourselves were ok... But basic. So much more could be done here. I recommend that you visit elsewhere.
