Sasamat Lake is located in Belcarra Regional Park, a wonderful wooded preserve area which appears to cross the communities of Port Moody, Belcarra and Anmore. You can access it from Port Moody via Ioco Road to First Avenue. The route is well marked, and perhaps 15 minutes drive time from Old Port Moody downtown. Belcarra Regional Park and parking are Free.BEACH: White Pine Beach is a nice little spot that locals tell me can become a real zoo on a weekend in the summer, but for our February visit, the visitors were no problem and parking was easy. If parking is difficult, the beach will be packed, and I would avoid it. Weekdays and Off-Season seem to be your best bet unless you enjoy the crowds.I rate White Pine Beach as Average to Very Good.TRAIL: The Sasamat Lake Loop is a wonderful 3.2km (2 miles) of very well maintained trail around the lake. This is a very easy trail, but does have some stairs that would make strollers or wheelchairs pretty challenging. Most of the trail is in moderately dense forest, there are washrooms on either side of the lake, and I don't recall any water fountains. So, go prepared. The trail was peaceful and beautiful for walking (a bit of minimal traffic noise from nearby roadways), we saw happy families with children from babies to teens, it seems a great place for dogs on the trail or in the water, and a local couple was fishing for rainbow trout from the floating bridge. Bicycles are not allowed on the Loop. You can access a map of the Park at http://www.belcarra.ca/Belcarra_Regional_Park_Map.pdf I rate this trail area as Excellent for a picnic and/or easy morning/afternoon walk, not far from the city.Belcarra Regional Park is much much larger than just Sasamat Lake, with several trails, picnic parks and much more. I will leave that to a different review. But if you want a getaway, I would strongly encourage you to stay away... if I am in the area, I like my peace and quiet. Otherwise, visit and enjoy.

This is a great swimming lake in the middle of forests with white sandy beaches. Yu feel like you are miles from civilization but it is only minutes away.

Mid-week this is a great place to walk a dog. Lots of parking. Peaceful. Nice way to start the day or week. Fishing available on the bridge for those who like a challenge.

I highly recommend this lake for either a terrific swim or a nice hike around the lake. Very scenic. Weekends are always crowded so try to visit on a weekday if you can

This is an amazing location to visit that is so close to Vancouver. The beautiful lake and mountain views are spectacular. Great location for a family picnic. Clean washrooms on site contribute to the experience.

I have been to this lake / beach last summer. It is amazing sandy beach with relatively warm water great for swimming. It is quite busy over the hot weekend in summer time though.

This lake is amazing! But sooooooooooo busy during the summer months that we now avoid it during the weekends. If you want to get parking on a weekend in the summer good luck! You need to be there basically at the crack of dawn if you want parking within the park. Otherwise you will be on the street and walking for awhile or you can park behind the lake and walk in that way. The cops are usually there during the peak times as there tends to be people bringing in booze and drinking out on the lake. But the water is warm and the lake is small enough you can swim across if your a swimmer. The lake is beautiful during the off season. It's tucked away in the trees and very peaceful to walk around. But be warned if you are going on a warm summer weekend you will be in a massive crowd of people and fighting for parking!

Do NOT visit on a weekend, especially not on a long weekend... Other than those crowded times, it is a nice beach to play in the sand and in the relatively warm (and shallow) water. You can also hike the very nice, shaded and flat trail on the border between the water and the forest to the floating bridge (maybe 20 min walk, one way). We hiked all the way around the lake several times, It is a relatively flat terrain for an outdoor workout. The most beautiful section is between white pine beach and the bridge.

We went around the trail in about 1.5 hours with flip flops, so it's definitely an easy hike for people of all fitness levels.
