I stopped in on a hectic (for me) weekend, and it was an oasis of good vibes and astounding masks and art by master Haida artists and their next generations. Some of the masks on display are truly jaw dropping, both beautiful and haunting. I bought a catalogue of Robert Davidson's latest exhibit, Abstract Impulse recently shown at National Museum of the North American Indian (NY)and the Seattle Art Museum. Gorgeous, gorgeous pieces. Then, on impulse, I bought a CD there, New Journeys by Terri-Lynn and it imbued by trip with original, soulful Haida songs that I played non stop in my rental car while there and shared with every visitor since I got home.

A visit here was worth the trip itself. Access to the best Haida art around. Welcoming and friendly. A lovely space and light. Don't miss this on the road to Theill.

This is indeed a wonderful and impressive gallery. Staff is very informed about the artists and the work displayed is all high quality and most exquisite. Stopped here after visiting the Cultural Centre and would recommend saving the entrance fee to the Centre and spending your time here instead.

I own and operate Chinook Lodge in Masset, Haida Gwaii, which is currently rated #1 on Trip Advisor. I am writing this review from a local perspective and a Mom & Pop lodging business. Ben comes from a family with a tradition of success in the arts.\Bill Reid was acknowledged as the #1 Haida Artist and when he died, Robert Davidson, ascended to the #1 position and Ben is Robert’s son. Robert’s brother, Reg Davidson, is an acknowledged artist in his own right and resides in Masset. Robert’s spouse, Terry Lynn Williams-Davidson, is a Haida singer that in 2011 won the Best Female Artist at the Aboriginal Music Awards for her album, New Journeys. This is definitely my favorite contemporary album!I am a patron of the arts here on the Islands amongst accommodation providers and all my townhouses in Masset have substantial art in each townhouse. I recently acquired my first Ben Davidson print, “Just About”, his second only print and the first print in the serigraph printing style. WOW!Ben’s Gallery includes his art as well as other up and coming Haida and local artists and Ben should be very proud of his gallery which is in the tradition of galleries in large cities yet here it is on Haida Gwaii! Ben Davidson's gallery in Skidegate is a gem ! He showcases his own prints and carvings, which are magnificent examples of the professional work of Ben and his family member artists descended from Charles Edenshaw. He also exhibits works from other up-and-coming artists that give them a chance to make their works available to visitors to Haida Gwaii. A number of our group of 15 made significant purchases and would like to have more. Meet Ben and his family members and his love of art and bicycling. He is very approachable and loves to share his passion.

We loved the gallery space. Although we missed seeing Ben Davidson, we saw much of his work and enjoyed the energy and pride of his very pleasant gallery manager. The work is displayed in a very beautiful and professional environment.

Ben Davidson is now working out of a wonderful new gallery near Skidegate. Ben is a contempory artist, giving a whole new view and feel to Haida art. You can feel the love and effort behind each of his pieces. Ben also highlights other artists of his family and his community. We were absolutely delighted that he felt able to spend time with us, explaining each piece to us. Go ... You won't be disappointed.
