Beautiful Basilica in the heart of oldest city in North America. A must visit if you are a visiting from away. Beautiful architecture with a fascinating history. The stained glass windows and the ceiling are worth the trip. Also make sure you book a tour of the "Veiled Virgin" close by.

When we arrived it was dark and quiet but a lovely man came and turned on all the Christmas lights as they were in the midst of taking them down. The place is relatively new as far as basilicas go but is oozing with architecture and details of the greats

Spacious and ornate interior. Guided tours make the history come alive. Another great pipe organ with two consoles and majestic sounds.

The architecture inside the building is amazing. The thing I like the most is being able to look out into the harbour and watch the boats - it is relaxing

So big and beautiful, full of history. Wonderful sculpture of Christ after the crucifixion beneath the altar. Ask to see it.

While walking around Downtown, I stopped at explored the Basilica. The architecture is amazing and the interior décor is a nice surprise when you walk-in. It is very big inside and you can easily find yourself snapping lots of pictures. Make sure to check their website on times that are good for visitors. I went on a Saturday afternoon and it was fine. No one was there. I would highly recommend going!

This is an incredible building with beautiful stained glass windows. I wished we were able to take in a service there. Whereas the Anglican church down the hill has travel guides available, this was self-guided. At the time we were there, there was only one other person in the building that we could see. It is a truly spectacular building.

Church sits on top of the hill and you can look out the narrows of the harbor.Years ago the British Governor told the Catholic Bishop he would let him have whatever land he could get fenced in "one day". The Bishop took him at his word and organized an army of people with picks and shovels and had wagon loads of fence materials show up. The result was the magnificent property you see today.

Unfortunately the interior didn't seem to be open when I visited, but it was still possible to get some great pics of the exterior. Visible from most places in St John's.

I am not a church person, but this place would make most of the churches in Venice blush. Class is an understatement
