We stopped here to get more info on the tidal bore. The Centre has a wonderful exhibit that explains about tidal bores around the world and the reason the bore is so high in the area. You can also watch the tidal bore come down the river from an overlook that's a short walk from the Centre-check the tide tables before visiting to find the best times. The Centre staff was very friendly and told us about other things to do in the area. Check the times that the Centre is open-it closes for the year in October. There was a small admission fee, but it was well worth the visit.

We arrived here simply to view the bore but never expected to get a nice guide tell us all about it on what is a very good platform overhanging the Shubie river (I thought it was just going to be a bunch of interpretive panels tbh). Very interesting info as it approached and passed which definitely made it a better experience than what it would have been otherwise (I think some people are genuinely expecting tsunamis!). Decent information display within the small centre itself too. We personally watched the bore further up the road in Maitland and then drove back / overtook it coming back to the centre (with plenty of time to spare). Would recommend if you can do it that way.

We timed our trip around seeing the Fundy Bore around midday somewhere, but it seems the moon was not on our side - the bore that day was unimpressive. However, the interpretive Centre was well worth the $5 each for the information and the viewing platform over the river

Personable, kind, & accommodating. Very friendly and pleasant. Beautiful views bring your camera! Informative as well. Sell cold drinks there too. Didn't cost an arm or a leg either!

Hello Stephen,We're sorry we missed you. Please understand that there are several factors that affect the formation of a tidal bore. The phase of the moon plays the biggest role, anytime other than the few days around and including the full and new moon very rarely generate a wave. If there is a higher than average outflow from the river, that can also further diminish the effects of a tidal bore. Understand that the tidal bore itself never reaches more than three or four feet in height in the Shubenacadie River. We invite you back to see the tidal bore anytime during our business hours which are 9-5 daily through the summer months. If you time your next trip around a full or new moon, your experience will be much more impressive. Our schedule can be found on our website.May I also suggest that you do not review businesses that were closed outside of their normal hours of operation, or attractions which are natural phenomenons. We can not decide how thrilling the tidal bore will be on any given day. Nice stop along the side of the road. This is a tourist information center with a nice little room with information on the tidal bore. There is a pier where you can walk out and view low tide from part way in the river. The bathrooms are clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Yes, you really can hear the bore wave as it sweeps up the Shubenacadie River! The Centre is very good at posting the times of the bore. The staff are very helpful and a rep will come along to the observation platform to explain not only about the bore, tides, etc but also about the ecology and geology of the site. Very friendly and knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions. The platform itself is high above the river, constructed at one end of a demolished railway line, so this gives visitors an excellent view of the Wave as it rounds the river's bend and makes its way upstream. Be sure to arrive in plenty of time to give yourself a chance to check out the Interpretative Centre's displays (and facilities). Altogether a great experience.

Friendly and informative staff at the info centre. Beautiful view of the river. The tidal bore didn't come but we saw some whirlpools which were mildly interesting.

There is a small museum with information on the local area and the phenomenon of the tidal bore.The observing platform is one end of a demolished railway bridge, which gives an excellent view of the river, with plenty of room for everyone.It is very interesting watching the river go from a sluggish current flowing seaward, with multiple sandbars, to a deep and raging current heading inland. They were hoping for a bigger wave front when we were there since it was a full moon, but it turned out to be a little underwhelming on that score. It was still fascinating to see the whirlpools form and the sandbars rapidly disappear as the tide surged in. I was also amazed at how red the water was.

In less than 30 minutes we saw in the distance a wave across the entire river approaching us and then saw the water level rise more than 10 feet. We were told within the next hour the rise would be over 20 feet. It was amazing to watch. This is a special place to really focus on exactly what is happening when you actually see a vast area of water pouring UP river in essence reversing the flow of the river. The interpretive center is loaded with facts and charts. Well worth the stop on the way to Burncoat cutting across to Grand Pre.
