While we knew the historic site closed at the end of August, we wanted to drive out to Canso and also drive along the East Coast. We drove through the town, but frankly we wasted our time. A number of properties and showing the need to maintenance and there really is nothing to see. It is quickly becoming a run down town.Checked out the RV park and while a great view, it is basic. Sure glad we didn't stay here.Don't see a need to return, even if the park was open.

this is actually for grassy island national historic site but it is also at Canso. The interpretive center was well kept and informative, the interpreters were friendly and helpful. The boat ride to grassy island was free and the tour self guided, we lucked into showing up by accident on the first day of the year that tours were being offered and the quick 7min ride to the abandoned site of a former english fishing colony and fort is a great place to stop if you are doing the scenic route from halifax to cape breton. lets hope the federal govt continues to support this service as it is historically and culturally important in relation to how the fort at louisbourgh came to be.
