The volunteer tour guides were so helpful and informative. The Wall of Fame is such a unique and personalized idea. A true asset to St Thomas, On.

This was our second stop on our St Thomas day trip adventure. Surprisingly this museum was very cool and interesting, first off if you are expecting fancy gadgets, modern displays and lots of trains to climb aboard on then this isn't for you. Don't get me wrong the museum is well a museum, but funding is in desperate need and hopefully in the future this museum could be an amazing hidden gem. For less then 20 bucks my family of four had a tour of the museum, we were there for over an hour and got to see many displays of past railway technology, model train displays, and a few trains to climb aboard. The staff was made up of few young female workers who all made you feel welcome. The museum one day could be really amazing but for now its still a solid place at a reasonable price to take the family to learn about trains.

A volunteer toured us around the cavernous locomotive shop, taking us aboard a caboose and into a impressive CNR Hudson locomotive. He was knowledgeable and good with our questions. There is also a nice model train set-up that goes around landmarks of Elgin County. This kind of museum is interesting - it's not slick and it relies on volunteers and donations, but there's a lot of information to be gleaned from the staff and displays.

I had heard about this museum years ago but finally made the effort to visit. It has a good collection of railway cars and engines and some fascinating pieces of railroad history. The kids were a little bored with the history discussions, but when they got to climb into the caboose and steam engine, push the buttons to control the signal lights and bells, and see the impressive model train layout, they were engaged! The volunteers were excellent and the price was very reasonable.

At the Elgin County Railway Museum you will see old train cars and engines under restoration. Many of the workers are retired railroad men and to them everything they do is a labour of love for a forgotten time when the railroad employed so many people in St. Thomas.

The place is a bit rundown but that is what fundraising is all about. Its great to see the trains and memorbilia from the towns glory days as the Railway Capital of Canada. They have a neat little gift shop and this year they are hosting the inaugural Tom Zombie festival August 31st with family fun times noon-three and the festival itself from 4-10 pm it looks like a great time.

You have to visit this museum. It has some amazing pieces of history including a complete Canadian National Railways K-5-a Hudson #5700.I loved this place... steeped in the history of the railways that built this part of South Western Ontario, based on its location in North America.

We stopped here this summer after spending the day with Thomas The Train. I'm not sure the cost because it was included with the Day with Thomas ticket. It was very interesting and educational. The volunteers working there are full of information and interesting tidbits. It was a fun time and there was a lot to look at and take in. Being able to climb into full size locomotives and old cabooses was the highlight for my family. In the back room off to the side (we almost missed it and only saw it because we were looking for a bathroom) is a large model train display. It was beautifully done and there were several "engineers" there operating the trains. The details were fantastic and you can tell that a lot of work and care was put into each one. This was the highlight for my young son.All in all it was a fun visit and I'm glad we took the time to stop in.

It was wonderful I can see that the Museum needs a great amount of support to keep it growing. It only takes about 45 minutes to go through but you can spend more time there. A few hands on demos. Loved the model railway
