We lived just a few minutes walk from the Jumbo monument. My son was 2 ish and would ask to have a wagon ride to see Jumbo every day in the nice weather. His face would light up every time and he would have to stand next to him and pat his leg. It is a treasured memory of days long past as he is now almost 20. A simple delight for little ones.

Not much to see or do . too bad St. Thomas not an attraction that I can even mention lest recommend . It is dirty and smelly from urine and has no appeal anymore . Lets see some place else for this packiderm . like a park that little kids can climb on with a slide inside ,Pinifore would be nice ! just put more toilets in so we dont have to pee on him.

Our son was born in St. Thomas and we lived there for 10 years so every time we are close enough--we stayed at the Motel 6 on Exeter in London (great place to stay)-we always visit St. Thomas and his girlfriend had never been. Lots of memories and glad to see him still standing. We were there the day he rolled into town in two pieces--a huge monument.

I live in nearby London, and have heard about this for years so we finally decided to check out some of the stuff in nearby cities. Man was this thing ever huge! I assume that it was an exact replica, and having seen elephants at Zoo's and Safari's in the past he was definitely big. My god though, does the small little parking lot need some attending to. Huge pot holes, and in very big need of repair. The gardening and the upkeep of the actual monument itself is quite well done. Wish there was a little more history other than the one little plaque. There is also a small caboose that shares the facility but it was empty and not entirely sure of it's purpose being there, especially if they are not using it. Anybody who knows the story, should at least visit here once and even if you don't it's worth a look. You don't need to spend more than 5 or 10 minutes here, so it doesn't hurt to check it out.

We had watched an episode of Canadian Pickers and in the episode they had told the story of Jumbo the elephant and how he died. We decided to drive down to St thomas and see some of the local attractions. I find it hard to give a statue of an elephant off some road beside a caboose train a high review. The caboose train wasnt open when we there but there was a sign that explained the site. Its a really nice statue dont get me wrong but make sure you didnt drive all the way to St Thomas just to see a 10 minute attraction.

If you like to take photos of giant things on your road trips, don't miss Jumbo. He had a fresh coat of paint when we visited, and he's enormous. A great lively sculpture of a circus animal killed by a train just down the road in St. Thomas!

This attraction in St Thomas is a must to vist. Not only because Jumbo is a life size replica of an elephant but because of the story behind him. The Train carriage on site is a museum and you can find out all about Jumbo there. its really interesting. Check it out next time you are visiting the area.

Nice monument to the beautiful elephant, it has a nice history telling you the tragic story of Jumbo. In a beautiful area of St. Thomas

The monument is in disrepair and is difficult to get to. Don't bother driving out of your way to visit this site.
