We were looking for excursions within our own area of the province to share with visitors from the west coast. We found Blueberry Hill Estates in Norfolk County and can report that it was an excellent find.We booked our tour via email and when we requested a change of date, they were very accommodating. Our tour with them was both educational and adventurous and all members of our 6 person party thoroughly enjoyed it. We learned about their focus on sustainable farming and experienced their commitment to give back as much or more than they take from the land. This is a family operation and adult sons are branching out to add even more to this operation that will only enhance the tour and the experience.We toured the blueberry fields in open golf carts (2 to a cart with one of our party driving). We continued the tour through the Carolinian Forest, a unique ecosystem zone found in southern Ontario, which was truly a very interesting and informative learning experience. We witnessed and learned about the many variety of trees that grow in this forest that included the tulip, sassafras, cotton wood, bird’s eye maple, iron wood, etc. We were in the thick of the forest and experienced a lot of what nature had to offer. One word of caution is that you should be prepared for mosquitoes although they graciously sprayed us down with theirs. I also would suggest you bring a hat, not for the forest part but for the open fields - especially if it is very hot out. What we also absolutely loved was the golf cart rides through the very narrow, bumpy and windy trails. Now that was a blast! Our age group consisted of 20 to 73 years old and as I said, we loved it. Who knew you could have so much fun while you were learning! Now the pièce de ré•sis•tance was the wine tasting at the end of our tour. They have a lovely area (café opening very soon) to present the wine and they were generous with their samples. They have a great variety of wines which we had not expected and although we all had our favourites, we did enjoy every wine we tasted. We can say that purchases of wine were certainly made this day. The venue, wine and presentation of the wine was lovely and very enjoyable and worth both the drive to this location and the costs associated with the tour (property). The owners and family members have a wealth of information and are incredibly knowledgeable. They also are generous with their time and attention. We all highly recommend Blueberry Hill.
