A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of addressing a small enthusiastic audience re letters written during and immediately after WWI by Cecil and Leslie Frost of Orilla ON, and, later, Lindsay ON. What a pleasure to discover the newly renovated facility, and to be welcomed so warmly by head curator, Jane Foster and her assistant, Joanne Himmelman, who gave me a tour and showed me behind the scenes into the marvellous storage room for valuable documents. Afterward, I spoke, read a couple of the war letters, and sold so many books that I ran out. What a welcome! The museum and archives are well worth a visit.

The new renovation is splendid. Lots of room to roam and view the exhibits. Staff have done a fine job documenting the history of Lennox & Addington. The geneology/research room is newly equipped and spacious. Staff are always helpful and courteous.A must-see if in Napanee!

We were visiting Napanee for the mega caching event and had the good fortune of visiting the newly renovated county museum & archives on its opening day. It was a pleasure to see that a community such as L&A is supporting local history and heritage in a tangible and meaningful way. The building was once the county jail and one of the original cells is preserved in the exhibition area.There were three exhibits that I particularly enjoyed. Two temporary exhibits related to the anniversary of the First World War: women's fashions from the home front and a collection of recruitment posters. Both told us much about the social history of the war years. The third, a permanent exhibit, featured elegant pieces of furniture made at the Gibbard furniture factory which was located on the bank of the Napanee River. Although the factory is no longer functional, the buildings are still there. On the other side of the main entrance to the museum, the archival collection is located. For those doing research in local history or searching their family roots, this is a facility to enjoy for its brightness, its comfortable work stations, and its state of the art technology -- especially the large screens for reading microfilm or fiche. I had a chance to speak to the archivist and I feel certain that she and other staff members would be very helpful to researchers.As a volunteer board member of a system of museums in another community, I must admit that I felt a small twinge of envy when I visited this excellent facility. I hope it will be well used by the community and visitors to the area.

Nice country museum with nice history and items. Clean and great for the children. Easy access, central area, encourage a visit to learn about this nice little town.

The archives in Napanee are endlessly fascinating to someone from just outside that area. In public school, I was the runner up in the regional science fair, based on a trail that the helpful staff there helped me trace, from 1830 to present! Since that year, I've participated in some volunteer work that allowed me to sit in the archives for hours, piecing together stories of properties, and learning about the people that built Napanee.The museum is just a museum, though it is in an old prison, and some of the exhibits are in old cells, which is neat. But the archives are just right for anyone who wants to learn about the history of Napanee.The staff are exceptionally friendly, one and all!The whole lot of it, however, is under construction until 2014, as far as my knowledge goes. I'll be happy to return again someday!
