Parrott's Bay Conservation Area comprises a large swatch of natural forest and wetland circling Parrott's Bay, which connects to Lake Ontario via a short water causeway. The area lies just west of Amherstview, Ontario. There are trails throughout the area, well maintained and relatively easy for most visitors to navigate. The Bay is a natural gathering place for water birds (geese, ducks etc.) prior to flying south for the winter (during mild winters, many of the geese remain here). The walk on the trails is peaceful and pristine, with several walking tours available from 30 minutes to about an hour in length. In winter the Bay and creeks freeze, and it becomes a great spot to cross-country ski, skate and toboggan. The entrances are barred to motorized vehicles, leaving it a quiet, unspoiled sanctuary only minutes from residential areas. Truly a little known gem!

My husband and I headed to Parrott's Bay for an afternoon hike/walk on a beautiful summer day. We parked at the Hwy 33 lot, though there is also a lot along Taylor Kidd. Parrott's Bay is the CRCA's newest conservation area, with about 5 km of trails surrounding a large wetland. While we were there, we didn't see many others - passed 3 parties in all. Unlike some of the other conservation areas in the Kingston area, there are some hilly areas at Parrott's Bay, particularly along Trail 4. This made for a much more interesting stroll. Most of the trails head through wooded sections, with intermittent views of the wetlands. There's also a nice lookout at the end of Trail 1. We saw lots of wildlife and ended up on Bayview Drive. We needed to walk back to our car along Hwy 33.The previous reviewer said that the trails weren't marked, but they must have put them up since then, as most of the trails were well-marked. Still, I would suggest keeping a photo of the map with you just in case. For more details and pictures, you can read my blog post at http://beyondmybox.wordpress.com/2014/06/22/parrotts-bay-conservation-area/

Parrott's Bay is a very new conservation area, cobbled together as a means of protecting some precious wet lands from rapidly encroaching urban development. At present the area is not overly used, but those who do use it seem to be incredibly careless how they dispose of litter! Some interesting trails which meander around the wet lands. A good place to observe wild life.
