I have been to Georgina pioneer village three times in the past year and a half as an historical reenactor volunteer. The village is the result of a number of community members, some of them still alive and volunteers, who arranged for the town of Georgina to donate the land and help finance moving several historical buildings to the site. There is a church, and a schoolhouse, a store, a large house owned by a series of family doctors of the same family who served the Georgina area. That house is beautifully furnished with 19th century and early 20th century decoration. It is set up in a nice village arrangement with buildings along an L shaped road. The village sponsors events and historical reenactments for school groups. I have participated in Rebellion of 1837 events, and provided tours of the doctors house at Christmastime when it is decorated for the season and very beautiful.

Nice way to spend a couple of hours to look at the past of georgina. I would add this on a trip to the roc as they are side by side.

Community members run a wonderful Pioneer Village right here in Georgina.Buildings from the area, including the Sutton Railroad Station have been moved onto the grounds near the Civic Centre.It offers summer camps for young people to allow them to experience what life was like years ago.There is even a military aspect for young boys and girls.Some if the local grade 7 and 8 take part in a special reenactment of the War of 1812 with adults and their classmates.It makes learning about our history come alive.An active group of volunteers welcomes new members to help preserve the past.

This old village, like Upper Canada, Keene and Toronto's Pioneer village provide a living history through volunteer workers. It is part of a large recreational area called the ROC (recreational outdoor complex) which has bike trails, snowboarding, skiing, tubing and tobogganing, as well as ice skating and sports fields.

A true gem. A small pioneer village museum but well laid out with a small but professional staff and a core group of enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers.They offer summer camps, special events and rentals for private events. A true hidden treasure in Georgina.

Thank you Nena for having the vision to preserve so much of Suttons local history. It's a worthy tour. Check for different events they have there over the summer months.

I was up in the Georgina area visiting family and was looking for something to do to keep my kids busy on a rainy day. My mom recommended the Georgina Pioneer Village which turned out to be a great idea. When we entered the Welcome Centre we were greeted by their wonderful staff. They told us all about the Village and took us on a guided tour. I enjoyed the tour as much as the kids did because the Village has so many different buildingd to see. My favorite buidling was the General Store, but the kids loved the Train Station because they were allowed to ring the bell and see who could be the loudest. When the tour was over, the staff even researched other things to do in the area and gave us different brochures and ideas of places to go. Overall, visiting the Gerogina Pioneer Village was a fun place to see with helpful and friendly staff who were nice enough to research activities for us out of towners.
