My wife and I did an 11 night catamaran cruise all around the BVI out of the Moorings on Tortola Is. What a fantastic vacation this was.The Captain took us to Anegada , Upon arriving Captain George introduced us all to Larry who was our Friend for the day. First we all picked a Lobster from under the dock in a cage that we wanted for dinner , Then we all loaded up in a van for a twenty min ride to Loblolly bay. The beaches on this Island are so pristine and beautiful , We had a piece of driftwood from one of the other Islands that George told us to burn our names and where we were from with a magnifying glass . Arriving at Loblolly Bay we had a quick cocktail at the bar where we nailed our driftwood to the bar along with all the other peoples driftwood .Then walked down to the beach and did some of the most Awesome diving and snorkeling I had ever done!!!! Untouched giant coral heads , swim threws etc. I was told that this reef system here was the third most beautiful in the world. After dragging me out of the water we headed back to the dock where we had our dinner all ready to be served , we ate on picnic tables right on the beach , and it was yummy! We did this trip May of 2011.

We spent everyday snorkeling the beautiful coral reef right off the loblolly bay beach. The sand was amazing and we also enjoyed body surfing the waves! We were able to see big and beautiful fish in the healthy and large coral reef. When we weren't snorkeling we played matches of beach volleyball...it was a blast!! It had everything we were looking for including hammocks if you just want to relax and read a book and a bar with nice bartenders. The bar is very unique because their is driftwood with people's names nailed all around it. When we asked to add ours up their they gave us a piece of wood and a magnifying glass to burn our name is the wood with the sun! I absolutely recommend it if you are looking for a place to hang out for the day and have fun while your at it

Anegada is one of the Islands of the BVI, it has the most pristine beaches surrounded by coral and white sand. Only a few places to stay on the Island, you will need to have your provisions flown in as there is no grocery store on this magnificent island. It is so remote not many people have ever heard of it. The folks who happen to come by here are mostly sailors who happen to stop in for the ambience, fantastic beach bars and their delicious lobster. You order your lobster and they go out and catch it right then and there. It is so worth the trip if your looking to meet interesting folks from all over the globe and total seclusion. We fell in love with the locals and the remote beaches.

One of the more 'populated' beaches on the island, Loblolly is still (thankfully) pretty deserted by Caribbean standards. When we first arrived at Loblolly, it was raining; However, once the sun came out, it lived up to its beautiful reputation. Had a nice meal at the Big Bamboo, followed by an entire day of rest and relaxation. The Atlantic is more like a lagoon here, as its waves are broken by the surrounding reef. Not only does this provide calm waters in which to snorkel, but also a great opportunity to comb the pristine white beaches for pretty shells and discarded coral.A perfect place to spend some quality time away from civilisation...stress relief 100% guaranteed :)

The Big Bamboo Bar is fun and the best staff, bartendersSnorkeling I'd fair at best with little fish to be seen...

This beach is breathtaking, blue water in the bay with waves cresting over the outer reef. We saw turtles and a variety of fish live, even though there were huge swells crashing onto the outer reef.

We went to Loblolly Bay as a day excursion from Virgin Gorda. The beach is beautiful and you really feel like you're away from everything. The snorkeling was some of the best we saw in the BVIs with tons of fish and even a few stingrays. The currents were a little strong the day we were there so be mindful of your swimming abilities.

We had a nice day at the beach. The snorkeling was OK, but the water was loaded with jelly fish. It's a long cab ride to Loblolly from the anchorage. I thought Cow Wreck was just as good a beach and is much closer.

We spent a week sailing the BVI and decided to visit Anegada. It's about an hour and easy to find from Virgin Gorda, you simply look to the sky and look for the clouds with the green bottoms and sail that direction. The water is so clear and the bottom so sandy that the refection from the shallows reflect up to the clouds and cause this effect. Pretty cool stuff.Once we arrived, (At Anegada Reef Resort) we took an open air taxi to Loblolly (Big Bamboo). There's a restaurant, fresh water showers and a small gift shop and an incredible beach. We are beach people, raised in Florida and make it a point to visit highly rated beaches not only in Florida, but in all of our travels, and had never heard of this place. How sad. By far, it is the most impressive beach that we have ever seen. Clean clear water, breathtaking color, unique natural soft sand with tiny specks of red coral and the best snorkeling we have ever experienced. We are avid snorkelers and take annual trips to the Florida Keys, but this blows that away. Patches of coral reefs begin only a few feet from shore, but if you venture out a bit the beauty becomes overwhelming. At several points we barely fit over the tops of the coral, but once beyond that you were completely encircled by a towering coral wall of about a 30 foot diameter. At this point it was about 35 feet to the bottom, but the sandy bottom in the center was crystal clear.......and the picturesque corals stretched from the top to the water all the way to the bottom.....with an impressive colorful array of tropical reef fishes intertwined throughout. There were seemingly unlimited areas like this. We have a 150 gal. coral reef tank at home, so identifying many of the species (and the cost of each at our local pet store, lol) was a delight. Tangs, wrasses, damsels, triggers, angels, butterfly, cleaner fish, etc.....they were all there seemingly enjoying life. It was surreal. And we have unsuccessfully tried to get sea fans to grow in our tank, and here they were, grown so large that they were above the surface, (at times actually out of the water) flipping back and forth in the waves like a bunch of weeds. Very humbling......It was also interesting that it seemed as if we were the only ones on the beach at all. There may have been 2 other people somewhere, but the beach is so long that it's easy to harbor the feeling as if you are the only ones there. It was difficult, but time was a consideration, so we headed back and enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Lobster Trap, which is one of the informal restaurants along the beach front near Anegada Reef Resort, which is a bit of a landmark on the island. It was the ending to our best day in the BVI. (And we had several incredible days, but this was the best!) After dinner, we spent the night upon the sailboat and sailed for another destination at daybreak. Many don't visit here because it is a bit out of the way, but this is why this website is so useful. If you enjoy beaches, snorkeling and seascape scenery, take this tip and add this to your bucket list. It's truly a hidden gem.
