The caves are great and a really nice option for a 3-4 hour excursion including a visit to the caves and a 15-20 minute hike. You will take a short boat ride from Chaguaramas which you need to book in advance with CDA (they have the keys to the caves). We got lucky that we were able to hitch a ride with some other boat and then meet the group since we did not book in advance. Our guide Wendell was very knowledgable and was able to give us a lot of background about the caves and the island.

Visited on 10/11/2014 after being away from home for 26yrs and enjoyed every minute down there will encourage all visitors to make the trip down the island at once. Will absolutely visit the caves again it is by far a treasured tourist attraction.

For the first time in my life I finally got a chance to visit this cave and I must say it did not disappoint. It is truly a marvel of nature.However, once again Trinidadians have shown that they have no respect for our environment. The cave has been abused but it is still a fantastic attraction to keen scientific minds and nature enthusiasts nonetheless.Upon entering the cave entrance, you descend a steep step platform and go down into the bowels of the cave. The tour guide was pleasant and very knowledgeable about the Island's history as well as the science behind the cave's formation. The tour occurs in three sections, each focusing on three different areas of the cave. The features are fantastic to see.The only problems I have with this attraction deals with the human impact. Vandals have etched their names in several sections of the cave, thereby reducing the aesthetic value. Please do not deface this cave.Furthermore, there are bits of trash and plastic throughout the cave. Also there needs to be some restrictions on the movement throughout the cave. We were allowed to explore (within reason) but I am concerned whether this would trample the rock and cause some of the cave to deteriorate. This exploration certainly cannot occur in Harrison's cave in Barbados. Also there are several railings and even park benches in the cave...again taking away from the aesthetic value.The best feature of this cave that even Harrison's cave lacks is the underground pool. The water is crystal clear and cold. It makes for a great swim. However, please note that since there are no lifeguards at this site, you are swimming at your own risk. Additionally, not every tour guide will allow you to swim, as they will not take responsibility for any accidents (and they are totally justified in their stance).Ultimately, I will recommend this place to anyone to learn about limestone environments and for a great trip out.

For the first time in my life I visited the Gasparee Caves in Gasparre Island, Chaguaramas. It is an experience worth effort and for the price, once cannot go wrong. I couldn'r believe that there was such an intiguing cave sysytem so close to the city of Port of Spain. To get there you have to take a boat from the CDA jetty and travel across. Your fees include a guide who, I think Mr. Gordon was very helpful. But seriously to the Caves: one would be amazed at the natural treasure of these caves. It a nice hike so you better be moderately fit. When you get to the cave you decend like 200 steps down into the grotto to view the underwater pool and stalagmite and stalagtire formations. In the main caves, you will se some very interestings and intriguing shapes carved into the limestone. These include the phantom's bedroom, the kissing couple, the starfish and the face up to the roof. The system of sinkholes gives a unique lighting to the cave. Overall I found the total experience: the boat ride, the hike to and from and the visit to the cave to be a very good ecperience. And heres the best part: you can do this adventure in 1/2 day give or take and it will not ocost a familiy of 5 not $500. I trust that going forward, the CDA would ensure preservation of this location and encourage more visitors, both local and foriegn. You can walk with you cooler and snacks since there are adequate facilities for the public. Lystra Marajh

I went on an organised tour with Courtney Rooks, a local Trinidad nature and adventure guide. The boat ride was enjoyable and the cave particularly interesting as the cave is filled with sea water. It seeps through the cracks in the limestone and is at the same height as sea level. The cave is very large and part of the roof has collapsed which provides a large part of the cave with natural day light and a crown of tree roots. The stalagmites and stalactites are no longer growing and it's quite dry inside the cave. There are a few bats but not many. Overall a really cool cave system to visit.

Taking a time out with family and friends to experience sweet tnt. One amazing place to visit would be gasparee cave. The journey is exciting from a boat ride at island home boating yard to the gasparee island. Here a nice cool trek takes you to a wonderful picnic site and the opening to the amazing gasparee cave. Thanks to CDA for excellent maintanence of the cave. Do take your family out to the cave.

Getting to the Gasparee Caves you'll need to go through the Chaguaramas Development Authority to setup the tour. Normally, it takes a group outing of at least 10 people. It's $70 TT each for the tour, then $35 TT to park at the Marina, and $25 TT each for the roundtrip boat ride. The boat ride itself was really the highlight of the trip. It's a short 10 minute boat ride to the landing where you then take a paved walkway to the lodge by the cave entrance for a short break. Bring water and food. They do have bathrooms there, but you might want to bring your own TP and some hand sanitizer if they're out of both. The caves themselves are interesting. It's a steep stairwell down into the recesses of the caves. Best to wear good walking shoes as it gets slippery and the lighting is poor. You'll likely see bats throughout the cave, so be aware of this if you don't like bats. Nothing to worry about from them except for the guano you'll likely get on your hands. The tour is ok. While interesting to see something like this in Trinidad, there isn't a wow factor here. One visit was enough. Do not bring small children under the age of 8. Those under 8 were pretty miserable on the tour. The cave temperature was warm and it gets humid there compared to the surface temperature. You'll get some decent pics. Swimming isn't the norm, but I hear you can do so if it's a small tour. We didn't get the opportunity. An ok outing, but best done so without small children and having enough water to last for acouple hours.

The walk to the Gasparee Caves was very long and tiring (especially since the weather in Trinidad is very humid and hot), but the caves were very interesting. I went with a group of people and the tour guide who led us there gave us very useful information about the plants that we saw along the way. The scenery is gorgeous and you can see the Gulf of Paria, and even a shadow of Venezuela at one point i remember that the tour guide pointed this out to us. If you are adventurous, not afraid of heights and you're not afraid of getting a little wet, you may really enjoy this trip! It's a very peaceful and breezy trek to the Caves but the Caves were very muggy. I am not sure how well this site in Trinidad exemplifies a sustainable tourism model since i remember that there was a sign warning visitors against swimming, yet the tour guides allowed visitors to swim. That's just one aspect of the whole experience that made me question the management of the site which to me is part of sustaining it. The boat ride to the Caves was not very long though but you get magnificent views of the landscape along the way and it's definitely worth the ride.

Located on the Gaspar Grande Island, one of the Islets owned by Trinidad and Tobago. These caves are magnificent system of natural limestone.You walk down a staircase which is flanked by stalagmites and stalactites where you come to a lovely pool which reflects the light which beams into the cave. One can get here via a boat accompanied by a tour guide provided by the Chaguaramas Development Authority on the Main Island (Chaguaramas,Trinidad)
