Embalse Hanabanilla is a huge lake between the mountains in the Escambray. It measure up to 600 meters depth. You can make a boat trip on the lake, the lake is a natural habitat of sweet water turtles and you will see them drying in the sun on a drifting piece of wood.

Worth looking at if you were driving between Trinidad and Santa Clara as we were to see the Che memorial - otherwise not worth a special trip. The drive itself over the mountains is beautiful and there are spots where you can look right across to the sea. Lovely scenery and the drive over the mountains is more scenic than the motorways.

Great nature! I went there with a guide and a driver. They know where to go and how to drive. Roads are steep and bad, you need 4 wheel drive and experience. Had dinner at a fisherman's place, never ever had better fish in my life.

It's a beautiful lake and tou can eat at home with the Cubans if you like

The Hanabanilla lake is lovely at this time of year. A lush green countryside and beautiful views.

We loved the fresh water reservoir/lake and visiting the waterfall. The hotel is large and seems underused. The food was a la carte (rooms very inexpensive and I think included a breakfast restaurant style) - very reasonably priced. Seems to be popular with bicyclists on their way through and fishermen. Boats are available to take you out and a group can book a tour to the waterfall, and to the restaurant out on the lake - we had nice food there and took the hike to a peak behind the restaurant for a beautiful view. For all the quiet and beauty, I cannot understand why the music must be blasted at the pool. This is heard in the rooms also, making napping impossible. We are mostly vegetarian, but made our way with the fish, eggs and yummy fried plantain and other roots - yucca etc Very quiet - few guests in Feb last year. We did meet some cyclists who had come down from Topes de Collantes (which we also did)

El Embalse Hanabanilla es un importante embalse de agua para la vida del pueblo y la economía de la zona centro-sur de Cuba, provee de agua dulce a Trinidad y Cienfuegos, se puede navegar en el como atractivo turístico (lo recomiendo) y para observarlo en su mayor plenitud se puede escalar hasta el observatorio natural de El Nicho (mi preferido junto a sus majestuosas cascadas invernales).

holaeste es un lugar perfecto para ir en familia,se disfruta de un gran paseo por el embalse que por cierto en muy grande,en un barco te llevan hasta una cascada donde puede bañarse en un agua realmente fria.tambien hay un pequeño restaurante saludos

El lago y su excepcional entorno constituye uno de los secretos mejor guardados de Cuba pese a su proximidad a Trinidad, Cienfuegos y Santa Clara. Espero que dure mucho antes que las hordas de turistas extranjeros contaminen este espacio porque, afortundamente, sólo recibe el aluvión de visitas de turistas nacionales durante los meses de julio y agosto y ello ha posibilitado preservar el medio ambiente de este frágil lugar. La única nota negativa es que, como en otras zonas turísticas de Cuba, ya han llegado los buitres que están atentos a los dólares de los "yumas" y cobran comisiones ya hasta por mirarlos.

Ein empfehlenswerter Tagesauflug von Trinidad aus. Den Stausee kann man mit Ausflugsboot überqueren und am anderen Ende aussteigen (Boot wartet, wenn man es für ganzen Tag gemietet hat) zum Naturpark "La Hanabanilla" hinaufgehen (ca. 20 Min.). Die Fahrt über den See ist beeindruckend, Natur pur, man sieht da und dort die Schildkröten auf den Steinen sitzen, Vogelschwärme ziehen ihre Kreise, ...Der Park "La Hanabanilla" ist ein Naturparadies, mit Wasserfällen in mehreren Ebenen und Naturwasserbecken, wo man auch schwimmen kann (Wasser jedoch ziemlich kalt, aber erfrischend nach langer Wanderung). Es gibt auch ein kleines Restaurant, wo man rasten und etwas trinken kann. Für uns einer der schönsten Naturparks von Kuba.
