Plaza Las Delicious is the main plaza in Ponce. There are fountains and various monuments in the park. In the center of this plaza is the famous Fuente de los Leones (Lions Fountain). The large, round-shaped fountain is bounded by a low, granite wall. The fountain features four lion statues. The historic firehouse building, Parque de Bombas, is located here. It is now a museum, but was the city's main fire station for many years and the first fire station in Puerto Rico. There are some reasonably priced souvenir shops in the area of the square. Of course, look for King's Ice Cream. The name is hidden, so look for the Melia Hotel awning. We walked along a side street where stores had bargain items on the sidewalk.

I stayed in Ponce for several days and luckily my hotel was right across from this plaza, so I was able to explore the area quite easily. The plaza is quite lovely and atmospheric, with several interesting attractions to see. The highlight is of course the amazing, white cathedral, but there are other worthwhile sights as well. The red and black striped firehouse is a delight with a few exhibits inside. Next to the firehouse you can take a trolley tour of Ponce which I enjoyed and thought was worthwhile. The Armstrong House, directly across from the cathedral is a beautiful neoclassical style and can be seen with a tour guide. There is also a gift shop inside as well. This elegant home, built in 1899 has original furnishings in almost every room and is quite large. This is a great way to see how life was lived by the elite in Ponce during that time period. The plaza features several fountains, although the largest one was not operating with water during the days I visited. There are also statues of noteworthy citizens. I loved seeing many of the beautiful trees throughout the plaza. There are lion statues at two corners of the plaza, commemorating Ponce de Leon, founder of the town of Ponce. The City Hall, built in the 1840's and the oldest colonial building is located across from the plaza and you can visit the inside courtyards. In addition, there are two historic bank buildings of neoclassical style near the plaza that are worth a look. Be sure to stop at King's Cream for some delicious ice cream with unique, fresh, tropical flavors. The shop is located right across from the plaza, under the Melia Hotel. Enjoy visiting Ponce, a lovely historic town with lots of character.

This place is beautiful. You should take the trolley that takes you around the historic places around the plaza. You pay for it at el parque de bombas. You should wait to buy your souvenirs at this plaza. There is a shop across from el parque de bombas that has alot of souvenirs at a decent price. I bought a pilón for $25 and that same pilón was $62 in san juan.

I have no idea who could call this area anything but depressed and boring. There are a couple of fast foods establishments, fountains with no water in them! We went on a Friday evening and there were no tourists, anywhere. If you want to play a practical joke on someone tell them to go to Ponce!!! Waste of our time, besides the laughs we got at how awful it was. The running joke in our family now when something bad happens, is that we say w have been "Ponced".

Main square in ponce with nice buildings surrounding it and the cathedral in the middle which is nothing spectacular. Parque de bombas is right there too which you should check out.

People enjoy visiting "Plaza de las Delicias", specially because they appreciate the stunning cathedral, where a lot of beautiful weddings take place, others enjoy taking pictures of the painted lions that are all over the place (being that the lion is representative of Ponce), while others enjoy the old fire station, which serves as a location to hop on the trolley. But if you ever visit Plaza las Delicias, don't ever leave without eating at King"s Ice Cream, best known by the locals as "Los Chinos". They sell the most delicious ice cream in all the flavors you can wish for and best of all, at very cheap prices. Just so you're aware, during your visit there, you will most likely see homeless people, being that many organizations and churches go to Plaza las Delicias to give them food and clothing at different dates and times. At night, the Plaza is filled with night life and most tourist stay at one of the most famous hotels in Ponce; the Meliá Hotel, located right in the center of downtown Ponce.
