This small beach is just outside Arecibo. The rocks prevent the big waves, making it feel almost like a lagoon with very clear water. It's a quiet and scenic place to relax. The waves crashing on the rocks make it gorgeous. Free parking.

The place's full name is "La Poza Del Obispo", or "The Bishop's Pool". This used to be a "hidden" or not so known location. I have visited there since 1977. It is now a well-known location, so best time to visit is weekdays, as weekends it will be crowded.WARNING: There is a pretty heavy undertow. So be careful will children.I never get tired of watching the waves crashing against the rocks. Best during high-tide.

Never experienced so much entertainement from a natural wonder! There is no fee, just park in parking lot. Pick a hut or stay on the beach. Then bath in warm crystal sea water. Observe the waves "exploding" in front of you in total safety. Sometimes they smash so hard that the whole surface turns as foam. Bring your camera / video and shot tons. Bring your kids and have fun!

This is the locals beach right beside the Arecibo Lighthouse! This beach is long and today a bit windy and big action with the waves, but the protected swimming area was great...there is a band of rock that protects the swimming area and the waves crashing on the rocks and sending water 50' in the air at times was spectacular to watch and get sprayed and created some minor wave action in the swimming zone which just made it more fun. There were local body boarders and surfers working the waves beside the swimming area and they were having a great time with nice sized wave action...it was FREE and the only issue would be there is no facilities there at all so bring water and snacks and sorry no BANOS! There was a hike up near the Lighthouse looking down into coves where the waves crash in and at time sending water clear up to the top of the cliff I stood on...great views, friendly natives and the few tourists that could find it made it very nice with no crowds. Definitely would recommend a swim here if you are staying in Arecibo, Puerto Rico

Great little local beach! No vendors or facilities so be prepared. Fun place to swim while watching the water splash over the rocks.

This beach is next to the Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park. The pier close by and the scenic view is breathtaking. It is great in daylight and afternoons, not safe at night because there are no establishments perse.

It is an amazing beach in terms of tranquility, but this tranquility is in terms of waves, since the beach has a boundary of rocks that circles the place around. It is a public beach and you may found dogs and other stranded animals around the place. Aldo there is no near place at walking distance to eat cheap.

I didn't know the name of this beach when I wrote a review of the Arecibo Lighthouse, But we visited this beach with our family a couple of times. The first time we stumbled upon it after leaving the disappointing Arecibo Lighthouse. The beach has free entry and parking, with a mile of almost empty sandy beach stretching out to the east. With four small grandchildren with us, we stayed by this sheltered cove on the west end. There is just enough excitement from waves crashing on the surrounding rocks, sending spray high into the air and waves up onto the beach. The kids (ages 1-8) loved it and with a watchful eye from parents, were safe enjoying the warm water and sunshine. Just wonderful!

Being that my family is from this region of Puerto Rico, I been fortunate, no not fortunate but blessed to spend time at this beach. Its amazing the way waves crash on the rock formation. The water then glides over the surface of the rock and fills up a turquoise lagoon. The beach is nice and secluded on the north shore of Puerto Rico. It is relatively clean and well maintained by volunteers from the community. There is limited parking but its a short walk to the water, so get here early. The Beach is less crowded during the week on school days. There is also more beach if you take a short stroll, most people hang out at the lagoon. Beware there are no lifeguards and the currents are really strong. Overall when visiting the Puerto Rico, don't stay in the San Juan area, head west to the city of Arecibo and enjoy the beach at La Poza del Obispo.

I had mentioned this beach in my post when visiting Arecibo but didn't know the name. Well it's a very nice beach. Although I had read comments before visiting that the people weren't friendly, the beach was un-kept, no toilet facility and more. Well, first the people were very friendly, I think someone on another post mentioned they have a welcome committee. As soon as we reached the beach there they were welcoming us with open arms. They explained how they work to keep the beach clean, suggested we stand on the small mountain for better views. We didn't stay long but there were covered picnic areas, I don't recall seeing a grill there are no bathrooms. It was absolutely worth the stop while visiting Arecibo. For the family members who did get in the water, they mentioned how clear and warm the water was unlike the beaches in California. So if given the chance visit Arecibo and spend a couple of hours at La Poza Beach you won't regret it.
