We were lead through the rum factory by a knowledgable guide who showed us the entire process. We could see the bottling process & the huge storage areas. There was also swell done museum that showed the growing & growing process. Of course the best is the tasting at the end & of corse the chance to buy.

Near to the city od San Pedro. Very modern factory of the most famous drink in Dominicana. Historical exposition included and finished with a degustation of all rum types, which are made here.

If you have the opportunity, we highly recommend taking this tour! Our very friendly, professional, & knowledgable tour guide, Paul Garcia was outstanding! The grounds and all the areas from production to the museum area are immaculately maintained and most impressive, and it was so interesting to learn the detailed process of how the rums are made.A first rate operation for a rum we have been enjoying for many years; and will continue to do so, but with a whole new appreciation with the new knowledge we have about it!

Booked the 11 o'clock tour at the Barcelo Ron factory, and was really pleasantly surprised. The service from the staff replying to my email was really good, asking if they could arrange anything else, transport, lunch etc. They even sent directions, which was a great help, as I am fairly clueless when it comes to that. The young guy that showed us around, I stupidly did not write down his name, was an asset to the company. He was extremely knowledgeable, was able to answer any questions we asked, took his time, and was a great host. The museum is well planned, full of interesting stuff, and enjoyable to do. As for the tastings, yummy! Would highly recommend taking time to visit.

Worth the visit. Not only do you get to learn about rum, you get a great sense of it's impact on the Dominican Culture. The attentions are superior. I was very impressed.

Loved the museum and the factory tour. Great experience for all ages. Did not know rum making was such an art.

My wife and I visited last week, and had a great time. We've been to the DR a few times now and have always loved Barcelo rum. Maybe it's an American thing to want to take a tour of the place your favorite alcohol comes from, but we decided to look into it since I figured out that this tour was outside S.P. de Macoris, and we were staying near La Romana. It was about 80 minutes from our hotel in Bayahibe, and not too hard to find if you drive yourself (or you can book through Tequia Experiences to get a ride). You'll have to book your tour through them anyway, under $12/person (without transportation). For the tour itself, you check out the storage warehouse where they age their Imperial line of rum. The smell is great, they should set up some lounge chairs and a bar in there. Then you check out where they repair the barrels they buy from American bourbon distilleries. Then you head inside for a walk through the company origins and the old way they made rum. Some interesting historical pieces they've acquired are on display. Then you watch a video about the manufacturing process. So you aren't going to wander through sugarcane fields or see the cane get pressed or distilled or bottled. Pretty sure that stuff all happens elsewhere anyway.Next you go to their in-house bar where you do a tasting of 3 of their premium rums: Gran Anejo, Gran Platinum, and Imperial. You can watch some Barcelo commercials from the 90's too. If they aren't busy that day, you can hang around and talk to the tour guys about whatever. Rum, baseball, etc.And finally, you're at the gift shop. Unlike every other "official" gift shop I've been to, the prices here are actually very good. If you want to buy any rum, here is the place to do it, because they have the best prices. A bottle of Imperial (which goes for $29 in duty-free at the airport, $34 at our resort) is less than $20 here. Would love to see some t-shirts with their corazon logo on it... maybe next time. All in all, a great way to spend a couple hours. Thanks again to Jorge and Otto.

Nice place to visit and get a true understanding of the great rum. The aging warehouse smell is to die for and the customer servicewas great! Doesn't hurt that they also have great deals on their rum and merchandise at the end of the tour.
