We enjoyed our visit to St. George's Cathedral in December 2014 while in St. Vincent. The stained glass was lovely; especially the window depicting the red angel. The architecture was very interesting and the Christmas decorations were beautiful. However, it was very sad to see the church in such a state of disrepair. I know upkeep and renovation takes money, but I would think the government would be willing to assist the church since the church is a tourist attraction as well as a place of worship. Without some intervention in the near future the church will be in such bad shape no one will wish to visit.

By European standards this church is not very old (about 200 years) but nonetheless it is steeped in history. This basically white building is in fact built from black lava stone, which is not obvious from the outside but once inside it is evident from the interior walls and the floor. The inside of the church is quite appealing, the main attractions being the chandelier made from gilded wood and the stained glass window with the “red angel”. Queen Victoria commissioned this stained glass window for her grandson and was so shocked when she saw the angel in red instead of white that she ordered it to be hidden away. It remained in storage in St.Paul's Cathedral (London) for many years until it was re-discovered and brought back to St.Vincent in 1920. However, for me the most memorable and most touching item is the plaque on the north wall, this tablet carries the valediction of his wife by a widowed man, it is a very emotional piece of work and well worth the reading. When you visit Kingstown make a point of finding this picturesque church, enjoy its peace and tranquillity as a break from the heat, dust, and the hustle and bustle of the town.

Full of history inside and out. Worth reading every gravestone! Liked the simplicity of the church, and the nearby catholic school is worth looking at too.

Nice place to visit and a good glimpse into the history of St Vincent and prominent figures involved with the country or the church. Churches aren't really our thing but we thought we'd pop in and see what it's like. We spent about 15 minutes there looking around - a calm break from the hustle and bustle of Kingstown.

Located right in the heart of Kingstown on Backstreet is The St George's Cathedral! The historic building has glass stained windows,a verdant church yard with gravestones of prominent Vincentians citizens The organ that accompanies the choir is booming and traditionalThe pews are sturdy and well kept. A picturesque setting

If you visit the cathedral, don't ignore the graveyard. The headstones are interesting, the flowers on the graves are so much more colourful than in England, and there's a resident colony of Cattle Egrets which inhabit one corner. The cathedral itself is of course a place of calm and restfulness amidst the life of Kingstown.

As others have said you get a pleasant welcome from the verger who was more than happy to point out interesting aspects and / or answer questions. If you are into such things I'd say it's worth a visit and look out for the stained glass window and the chandelier.

A lovely cool building, very welcoming. The large stained glass window to the right of the altar was commissioned by Queen Victoria on the birth of her grandson. But the artist put the angel in red!! The Queen objected, as angels should always be in white. She thought it was a bad omen and didn't want it in England, so gave it to St Vincent
