Windward is a fantastic beach that is free from any commercialisation - the beach is accessible down a small track and does not disappoint. The wild dunes lead you to a long stretching beautiful beach, and since it is on the Atlantic side of the island, it can have large waves which are perfect for body boarding.

Windward Beach is picturesque and wild. It is unimproved; there are no facilities of any kind there. It is indeed on the Atlantic coast of Nevis. The West Indies are a chain of volcanic islands that are situated where the Atlantic plate and the Caribbean plate meet. The Caribbean is on the western side of all of the Leeward Islands; the Atlantic is on the eastern side. The reason why the waves are so much bigger and rougher on the Atlantic coast of Nevis is because it is open to the whole reach of the Atlantic Ocean. That is also why plastic and other floating items wash up there: these materials wash in with the wind and waves, sometimes from great distances away, even all the way from Africa. If you prefer a groomed beach with convenient facilities, you will not like this beach. However, if you like to visit a wild beach with some powerful waves for body surfing, you will probably have a good time here.

The article says Windward Beach 'is on the Atlantic coast.' We are making our first visit to Nevis soon. I've always assumed that all of Nevis is in the Caribbean, since there are Caribbean islands to it's east and north. So, does Nevis really have an Atlantic coast, or is that just the shorthand way of referencing the east coast of all of the eastern Caribbean islands?

My wife and I just spend an amazing afternoon here. The beach was beautiful and best of all we had to it all to ourselves! The drive here is not for the faint of heart as the road rutted, however it is well worth the journey! The beach had a great waves for swimming and body surfing! It was our favorite on the island!

My favourite beach on the island as it was always deserted and the body surfing was ace!!!! Not sure if its changed now. It was also fab for walking. It was the only beach on Nevis you could go to be completely alone. AWESOME!

Not for swimming but worth a visit to see the water on the rugged windward side of the island and islands to the east in the distance. Not easy to find.

Waves for body surfing. Wind strewn. Make sure to go in a group and don't underestimate the surf. We were the only people here, loved it.

Love this beach with the big surf. The road to this beach is not for an ordinary car. Need a vehicle that can handle large ruts and rocks. We couldn't take our usual route, had to park and walk but the walk is refreshing and view is beautiful. Go if you like big waves but be careful. Also, last week there was lots of seaweed all over the beach. We saw a whale that day.

Nice for long leisurely strolls, saw runners there. Definitely not a swimming beach. Disappointed with all the trash, not really somewhere I would forage for seashells -- unless perhaps you go early morning which we did not. Nearby were the horse stables and race track - we stopped at the stables and the attendant there was kind enough to let us greet the horses. This is a pretty secluded beach on the windward side obviously, you will need to drive (or a long hike from one of the main roads) to get there. Not really anywhere I would plan on "laying out" on the beach (due to the amount of trash) but decent for strolls or jogging as mentioned previously.
