Caruso sang here as well but though a nice well oreserved theatre it lacks the decorative perfection of its equivalent in Cienfeugos

Not the main reason for visiting Santa Clara but once you are here, you should look at the Teatro. Cuba has so many amazing theatres of this style - great to see them being used rather than just museums and monuments to a past era.

Fabulous well maintained theatre with a rake on the stage like I've never seen. The great Caruso himself played here. It's a quick visit so go have a look if you're in Santa Clara.

This review concerns the bar attached to the theatre, not the theatre itself, called La Marquesa. The bar itself is not much to write home about - in true Santa Clara style we were met with 'no agua', 'no ceverza', 'si mojito' - but the mojitos are extremely cheap and strong! The reason to go here is however to watch the house band - Los Gimez - who (for one proficient guitarist and one avant listener) were simply phenomenal musicians as well as extremely friendly blokes! Their average is pretty high, so these guys have been doing this a long time and it shows. We love dthem so much we went back the next night, bought a cd and gave them lots of hugs. If you're in Santa Clara, do go along and say hello. P.s. DON'T use the toilet, which doesn't even have running water in the sink!

Mar 20The local guide said this impressive looking theater was built in 1885 by a wealthy patron. Using only the finest materials of the day, the theater remarkably is holding up and is in use today. The spartan, metal seats in the center contrast with the upholstered chairs in the side boxesEven Enrico Caruso made his way to this town to perform.

We enjoyed the tour and the guide we had had pretty good english, which was a nice change. The artwork and stage is very interesting. The flys are still manual and the stage is interesting to walk on. A beauty of an old theater they just don't make anymore. Worth a visit.

An incredible piece of heritage, built on the colonial times, the fresco paintings inside, vintage chairs, pillar, is all very nice, the bad thing about visiting the Caridad Theater is that is practically closed all the time. You have to be quite lucky to pass by and see it open during day time. On the other hand in the near village of Cienfuegos, both the cathedral and the colonial theater are open must of the time. Santa Clara has to catch up regarding this matter.
