This highest bridge in Cuba, 110 meter over canyon grounds, was built 1958 over a canyon near river Yumuri, separating Cuban provinces Matanzas and La Habana. On the west side of the bridge there is a restaurant and a viewpoint, where is possible to park a car and enjoy breathtaking views of the palmwoods and sea from the height of some 120 meters. Not many tourist buses stop here, and it is possible to eat and rest in quiet surroundings here. There are also tourist shops with souvenirs and clothes, toilets and camping place here. The turn to the viewpoint and restaurant lies some 20-30 meters sharp to the right after crossing the bridge in direction from Matanzas to Havana. This turn is easy to miss if not prepared, although it is signed as Mirador de Bacunayagua.

Breathtaking views! Everyone should stop here at least once if passing by. Bring toilet paper if using the washrooms.

You cannot miss this for a memorable visit. The turkey vultures fly on the thermals and you feel like you can touch them. Coupled with dozens of the old american cars in the carpark and a genuine Cuban band when we were there it was unforgettable.

There is a road side stop with lookout deck, restaurant, and souvenir shops all around. It is well worth the stop to enjoy a delicious pina colada - served in the pineapple (*they don’t put the rum in the mix for you, the bottle is off to the side – if you want rum make sure you add it yourself). There are washrooms, with relatively clean flush toilets, the attendant has the TP and Soap so don’t forget to bring some tipping coin :)Great location for a family photo as well!

Supposedly Cuba's tallest (112 metres), it is indeed a tall bridge, but I think anyone from Canada has probably traversed a number of them in the run of a week. Is it a true tourist "site"? Not really. There's a little bar that makes killer pina coladas, but the cost of a taxi to the place (about 30 CUCs) just isn't worth it. And, besides, your bus will drive over it on the way to the Varadero airport (if you are staying in Jibacoa).

I visited Mirador de Bacunayagua on Thursday, June 12th on our way back to Varadero from Havana. It was not very busy at all. You can get drinks and snacks and they were also playing some music. The view is spectacular but there isn't much more than that so it was a very quick visit. Definitely worth the ten minute pit stop.

The tallest bridge in Cuba (according to our tour guide). There's a little cafe nearby that offers good views and even better piña coladas. Seriously, buy one. I know they're expensive, but you owe it to yourself.

Good place to stop and view the beauty of the area. Ocean view and inland views. Wonderful piña colanda in a pineapple. Some vendors around but do not push you to buy.

Worth the visit! Beautiful view and great Pina Colada's! Sit and enjoy the view of the canyon leading to the ocean. The bridge is really high, the highest in Cuba and towers about the lush canyon below.
