An excellent museum with extensive displays highlighting the history of Butuan and Mindanao. It gives you a much better insite to the people and the place. I would highly recommend visiting here first as it will place in perspective the other area highlights you may vsit.

Butuan soll die aelteste Siedlung der Philippinen sein. Das Museum ist recht interessant. In zwei grossen Ausstellungsraeumen werden viele Exponate, gut sortiert und beschrieben gezeigt. Im Empfangssaal sind umfangreiche geschichtliche Beschreibungen angeschlagen. Es gibt auch einige Schaukaesten und einen Bildschirm mit abrufbaren Informationen. Mit etwas Glueck bekommt man gute Infos von den Angestellten. Das Museum liegt in einem Park in dem viele Baeume und Straeucher mit Beschreibungen versehen sind. Es liegt in der Naehe der "City Hall". Etwas versteckt findet man dort auch das "Tourist Office".

This is the second museum we visited in Butuan. The curator is really enthusiastic in explaining the history of Butuan and the whole of Mindanao and even acted like a tourist guide because of her suggestions on where to go around Mindanao to see beautiful places and eat local foods. A favorite topic about history buffs in Butuan is the site where really navigator Ferdinand Magellan celebrated the first Philippine mass in March 1521. Butuan is claiming to be the rightful place to earn part of history but up to now you can't really read it in history books. More than the exhibit I enjoyed more the air-conditioning because we visited in a very humid day.
