Saw the waterfall from above while zip lining. The 7 zip line rides were thrilling and views were spectacular. The zip line guides did an excellent job, and are very safety conscious. We booked this excursion at the tourist information center on the corner of the central plaza in La Fortuna. Cost was $45 UDS per person.

We made the trek down to La Fortuna waterfall and were just amazed by how powerful the falls were. It had rained for 6 days straight, so the waterfall was much more powerful (and dangerous) than normal. They let us get in the water just by the front, but couldn't go behind it (nor would we want to!). It was a truly amazing experience to be that close to such a powerful natural phenomenon. I definitely recommend checking it out, and hopefully you can get in the water!

We stopped here as part of an all day tour. The 500 steps down and back up were tough but the views of the water all down there were worth the effort.

The end product was great but there were SO many steps up and down, it makes you tired. It's not very far from the station but when it's all up or down hill it seems a lot farther.

This is a must see if you come to Costa rica. The most amazing, and beautiful place I have ever seen. The steps are a little treacherous but well worth the hike.

The waterfall is great, there's the bonus of a new restaurant at the entrance/exit which serves wonderful food- really, the standard is very high but the prices are not- but be aware, it is a VERY long way down and therefore, an even longer climb back up! When we were there in Feb 2015 they were making repairs to the lower part of the path so part of it was pretty dicey (I went over on my ankle) but by now they'll have completed it. It is well worth visiting, but again, be aware of quite a climb back up.

Waterfall is gorgeous. Had a great time walking down and then climbing on the rocks out into the stream and taking pictures of the waterfall. Once at the bottom, there is a trail down to the left you can also take to see more of the stream, fish, rain forest, etc. Definitely wear water shoes. the climb back up is tiring if you are out of shape, but you can stop and rest.

Beautiful water falls and more! A zoo, butterfly garden, bird sanctuary. Don't be scared by the price (40 $) it is worth it! The lunch (14$) is tasty.

Its a great view. If its a nice day wear a bathing suite. Its a good hike down and up 500 steps so you may want to consider this if not in good shape. Worth the hike.

We asked people about this and they warned us there were multiple steps, so plan for lots of time, especially if you are physically challenged. It was worth the trip, but was raining so the pool of water was not as pretty as pictures showed it to be. We did not bring cash and wanted to purchase a beach towel with a likeness of the falls on it , which could not be found in town. I would recommend seeing this attraction. We did get in the water despite the weather, and it was a little cold (November). Fee was reasonable, and there is a small gift shop there. There are tour groups that take horses to the attraction, but I believe you still have to go down all the steps to get there. Do look up and around, check out the area, as well as the river draining from the pool, as you can get into the water there a little easier.
