Go up this one and look over to check out the great plaza and temple I. Just wondrous. Tikal is one of the wonders of the world in my opinion. I have been to several mayan sites, including chichen itza, copan, palenque, and I think Tikal is the most interesting.

The stairs are nice to have on this one now. When I was there the first time there was no stairs. This is a neat place to go.

There are wooden steps in the back of the temple to climb up to where you can view the grand plaza site. One must be careful if you have some trouble with high elevation and sun.

Though this build is overshadowed by its companion nearby, it's worth admiring. It's a Late Classic Period structure, having been erected in the eighth century AD. It rises 125 above the jungle floor, and is a stepped pyramid of three levels, surmounted by a temple shrine with three chambers. Capping it all off is a magnificent roofcomb, greatly eroded, bearing remnants of stylized masks. Alas, the day I was here, climbing the pyramid was not allowed. Thus I was relegated to looking.

I think this is the one with the white top! It's in great plaza can't miss it...one of the more restored temples but gives a great impression as to what the whole place would've looked like in it's prime.

I could have spent more days there just to explore and feel the energy of the ancient Mayan Culture. I still feel that that experience has had a lasting impact on my life. Go see and experience.

I have to say that reviewing individual Temples gets kind of redundant, yes Tikal is big, there are lots of temples to see, but to a point the whole site should be reviewed as one great experience of Mayan Architecture to be taken in, seen, understood and appreciated. To review single structures is like reviewing a certain floor of the Empire State Building. Do visit it all and get to experience an incredible feat of engineering in a time where basic tools were made of stone. Hope this review was helpful!!!

There is a wooden staircase to the top of this temple, so its an easy climb. The views are incredible, looking over the jungle and to other temples in the distance. We could hear the howler monkeys and commented on how if you did not know better you could think you were listening to dinosaurs, when we mentioned this to our guide he told us Stephen Spielberg used this sound in Jurassic Park, so that explained that.

If you have to pick just one temple to climb at Tikal, this is it. It's pretty easy (wooden stairs up the back), and the view over the Great Plaza is the whole reason you came to Tikal!

I agree with other reviewers that there is no need to have separate reviews for each temple but should have just one attraction for Tikal National Park to review. That said, Temple II is part of the west side of the Great Plaza. When I first came to Tikal in 2001 we were able to climb the steps on the temple to the top. The next few trips wooden stairs were built on the side that gave you a vantage point near the top. This trip those steps had been removed so there was no way to get near the top for views.
