We went from our hotel in San Ignacio going through Guatemala for a day trip guided by one person from our hotel who picked us up and drove about an hour away to Tikal. AMAZING!Our guide took care of all the paperwork needed and introduced us to a guide that was so knowledgable of his home land it was incredible. Now with both guides ours from the hotel and one from Guatemala we began the journey of not only the tallest mayan ruin as well as many other surrounding it. the jungle, the agriculture, how termites live and build their own living place. This was true for the trantulas as well. A full day of walking and climbing but with the right guides it is a wonderful journey!

This area is interesting because of the quantity and variety of structures and styles. The huge pyramid contains in itself the oldest structure in Tikal dating to 700 BC. Creating pyramids on top of other pyramids is a well known mayan construction style. Think of matryoshka pyramids. Very cool.

The lost world is ok. It is interesting by its old age but doesn't worth the trip on its own. If you are in in Tikal, definitely walk to it

Our tour group got up at 3:15am to travel from Flores to Tikal national park. Went to Temple VI at 64m (The tallest temple) to see the sunrise. It was a risk since mostly its cloudy or misty in the morning and you can't see the sun coming up (80% of the time). We lucked out and saw super sun rise over the Temples and Jungle. Great start to the day! Our tour group walks through the national park early in the morning and its cooler (It gets very Hot and Humid in the jungle). Great to see the 20% of the site that have been restored. If you have been to anchor Wat in Cambodia its totally different. Its best to get guide since they know the site best!

Not sure what was lost, actually I was a little the day I found the path to this great little place. The structures there are not anymore impressive than any other in the park BUT for me and my son this was a cool place. There were both monkeys and parrots in the trees in this complex when we were there.

We went for the sunrise over Temple IV, which was a little disappointing given that it was a foggy morning. However, we immediately went to Mundal Perdido. We were the only ones there. Being at the very top with the fog while listening to the sounds of the jungle was a moment I will never forget.

      1. Don't take sunrise/sunset tours before checking weather. If there is a cloudy and rainy weather its a waste of time and money. 2. It is rather prefered to do the sunset tour. You will know in the morning if the day is clear or not. If you take the sunrise tour you wont have enough info regarding weather when booking.3. Take toilet paper with you, there is none at the park.4. VERY VERY NICE TOUR!!!! ENJOY!!!

The lost world is so tall/steep & amazing to see! It is also so beautiful, just like the rest of the ruins in Tikal.

Maybe I preferred this one to the great plaza...worth seeing...less people...if you get here early...like at 6.30...you can see many toucans....flying around...
