This museum is right across from the Archaeology Museum. It is also very inexpensive to visit. The employees do not speak and English, and all of the signs are in Spanish. The building itself inside is incredible, almost worth the cost just to see inside. It's not a huge museum, but it was a nice way to spend an hour. There are a lot of paintings and some very interesting mixed media pieces in the back. Our favorite piece was a huge oil painting near the exit that we actually stopped to look at for an extended time- first because the subject matter was risque and odd, and also because the talent of the painter was just incredible to make it so lifelike. If you enjoy art and have an extra hour, it's worth the small entry cost to walk through.

The building is amazing, even though not in it's best shape. You'll find a great collection of modern and contemporary art there, so it's really worth going if that's among you interests. The guy that was working there was really friendly, gave me some information on transportation, but I wished there as a guide.

Went there without really knowing What to expect. On the end, i was really happy I went, lots of paintings and sculptures are really strong. Close to the zoo and two others museums, so it is worth getting the transmetro of Guaté City.

Right across from the Archeological museum resides an extensive collection of modern Latin American art, don't miss it.

The Anthropology Museum was closed for a private event so I walked across the courtyard to the Nat. Museum of Contemporary Art. I walked clockwise through the building and enjoyed the collection. There were some slower spots, but I found some pieces that were very compelling. The descriptions were only in Spanish. I was able to understand enough that it was worth my time to try reading. I was not familiar with most of the artists represented but I certainly want to know more now. The display in the center of the building was devoted to a poet and painter- it was not the best curated, but I appreciated the words and images. There was an exhibit of ceramics to the right of the entrance that did not feel like it was the same caliber of art that the rest of the collection was. The building itself is a repurposed old place with a fantastic coffered ceiling. It has some natural light and feels oddly open just above the corridors that you walk through. There's a casual approach to art here. You will have to work to get much knowledge out of the shows. I really enjoyed my time and the lack of crowds. I was able to take my time and appreciate some of the pieces that caught my eye. It takes an hour to go through this museum at a moderate pace. Arrange your return transportation ahead if possible. There are no cabs nearby waiting. There is no gift shop or any souvenirs available. You'll have to take it all in.

If you dont like art but you are tring to like it, please visit somewhere else but here. So sad and small, so old as well. And bad maitenence. For what they charge they should do something. Waist of time.

There's a small collection of work by Mérida, so if you're a fan then it's probably worth a visit. There was also when we were there a guest exhibition of Japanese works, which had some interesting pieces. The rest is a bit of a hodge podge. There are a handful of interesting things, but mixed in with some really, really mediocre stuff.

This museum was a delightful surprise and well worth a visit. I would definitely revisit this museum.

Directly across from the museum or archaeology and ethnology, this little museum makes a good stop for people who like art. I particularly enjoyed the sculpture and found several of the pieces very moving. No photos allowed, which is a shame. This place definitely gives you a sense of modern Guatermalan art, and left me with a corresponding perspective on the culture and history that inspired some of the works.

It was a decent museum, but pretty small. We both found most of the art depressing (which is understandable), but there are really a few stand-out pieces that are gorgeous. Don't expect to be blown away, but if you like art you'll enjoy yourself. Also the archaeological museum is right next door, and the zoo is across the street, so there's a lot to do in the immediate vicinity.
