OK, it was Christmas Day --but they said the tour was open so we went. Luckily we had some in our party who could speak Spanish...our guide spoke no English (apparently there is one guide who does). The walk through the plantation was beautiful (there are some hills) and the earth was colorful and fragrant. We thought it was a bit expensive ($10 each) and there was a small cup, no refills, of coffee at the end. We actually enjoyed passing through the town and hearing the town soccer game's excitement as much as the tour. A real slice of rural life.

When they offer you repellent for mosquitos do not say NO. I thought to myself 'what mosquito at this time of the day?' Boy they are not mosquitos, they are tiny flies, they look like fruit flies. You don't feel at first but next day you start itching and its been a week and i am still itching and have red marks all over my arms. Otherwise it is very nice and informative

Great tour with 7 (seven!) canopy zip fly tracks thrown in as part of the tour. Friendly guides and coffee tasting afterwards. Flying over the coffee trees and river was really fun to do!Don't book an expensive tour downtown, but just take a local microbus to Chicoj and show up there for a private experience.

You get to the place easily by taking a bus from the street across the policestation near Parque Central. Fortunately, the stop was next to my hostal (Casa Luna, good place). Ask for Chicoj and they'll let you off and it's a short walk to the entrance. The tour was interesting, all be it a bit short. You get info about the history of the plantation and the process of growing and harvesting coffee. I can image the place would be more interesting during weekdays and in a harvesting period (I believe I heard that's November). The tour is combined with a ZIP-line (Canopy) over the plantation and a small lake. It's not the fastest or most spectacular, but it's a fun combination with an informative tour. Coffee-tasting was nice, although I had plenty better ones.Overall, a nice activity which is easy to reach for Coban. Just takes 2-3 hours, including traveltime.

We took a local micro bus from a side street opposite the police station and asked for Chicoj. The driver understood exactly where we were going. The drive took us out into the sticks. Beautiful countryside here. The tour was interesting and took around an hour, then we zip-lined back to the beginning and sampled the coffee. The community work as a cooperative to run this coffee plantation. After the tour we walked further along the unmade road until we found another bus to take us back.

This used to be one of many German Coffee plantations in the area and the people who live and work here now are the children and grandchildren of the workers. Now the community owns it and with help from some NGOs they have opened a tour and sell fair-trade, shade-grown coffee. The tour includes a zipline and I'm not usually an adventurous person but this ride was not so high, just zipping over the coffee trees and then the water reservoir. I enjoyed the tour and even more than that, I felt like my money was going to people who needed and deserved it.
