There are several exhibits including the depot, but having an (almost) functioning turntable was the highlight (there are so few to be seen these days) and you can circumnavigate this one to your heart's content. The Depot itself is about right for its vintage. The roundhouse has been turned into a reception center, but still is impressive.

Someone posted on this sight about how this was free to see. I called and it is not free. They charge $5 for children 1-3, $10 for children 4-17 and I believe it was $15 for adults. That is crazy expensive! We ended up not going because we could not afford it. I am sure it is a lovely place but charging $5 for children under 3? That is just ridiculous! I wish educational places had a family price. We have a large family and I am not about to pay almost $100 to go to a place like this.

The people who were caretakers gave us a great presentation. We learned how very important the town was because of its location on the rail line. A photo of my grandmother as a young girl in front of her family home was a part of the photographic history. That was very exciting!

The period-dressed guide really knew his stuff & our visit would have been a 5 had it not been for the couple in our little tour group who allowed 2 children to talk over the guide & the toddler run around disrupting everything. Despite these distractions, I learned a lot about Huntsville's very important role in history & the railroad's part in that. Loved the animated figures who "worked" at the Depot & helped tell the story.

Interesting piece of history. Civil war information and landmarks. It's free to visit however, if you want to go in the train carts. Connects to the Vets memorial. GIft shop.

This museum / park is very easily accessible. The exhibits are easily viewable and photo opportunities abound. It should take but a couple of hours to see everything. Great for kids young and old alike.

Wonderful collect of antique railcars, buildings and automobiles. Even has its own trolley for the enjoyment of its visitors. Wonderful photographic opportunities as you wonder thru the buildings and shops. Definitely a place to visit to experience a little bit of Huntsville's railroad days. A must see is the old passenger depot from which you can watch todays trains lumber down the tracks. The facilitates are well maintained and staff knowledgeable and friendly. There is something for everyone. Did you know that during the Civil War this depot was a prison for captured Confederates and a hospital for the wounded?

We had a great time here and learned a lot. We had a fab tour with a historically dressed guide. My 3yo couldn't stay still for the whole tour, but my 8yo like it. I loved that they let you climb all over the old trains, cars and firetrucks. They have a great air-conditioned play room for the little ones also. It was clean and very nice.

If you want to review and experience a little of history, this is definitely the place to learn about it. The train and old vehicles are really awesome. Also, a wonderful place to do photographs.

We came close to closing but they worked with us and gave us a guided tour of the museum. Our daughter enjoyed the toddler play area which had a great many learning through play things to do. A great place to visit!
