We took the ridge trail with 8 people in our group including three children ages 7, 10, and 12. It was a really nice Forrest walk up a fairly flat trail with sloping rock path at the end. Solid footwear a must. The end point is a rocky outcropping looking over Gardiner's pond and second Beach. Probably took an hour each way at a leisurely pace. Good exercise and way to get into nature.

We love the Sanctuary! They have many beautiful trails, our favorite is Hanging Rock where you can climb up out onto beautiful rocks and have a picnic as you overlook the ocean. The end of the hike is something on which to be watchful and careful. They host a lovely summer camp and programs through out the year.

Unlike other reviewers, we came here for a corporate event, and our visit was limited to dinner. As we arrived, a host was waiting for us at the parking lot. We were taken to our venue right away. As we got in the door, the staff were ready and lined up with drinks and snacks. All in all, excellent planning and execution. We had ordered a clam bake, and it was a good choice. Everyone in the group thoroughly enjoyed their meal and the hospitality. I would really like to return in daylight to enjoy the paths.

Hanging Rock, on grounds of Norman Bird Sanctuary is not where hangings took place but a promontory overlooking Second Beach and a portal to another dimension. Located on land once owned by Abe Lincoln's g.g.g.g.grandfather, over the centuries it was frequented and inspired philosophers, theologians, artists, writers like George Berkeley, Channing, Wm & Henry James, John LaFarge, Wm. t. Richards, John Clarke, Herbert Spencer etc. Enjoy the fauna and flora, and the view. Check out the scheduled nature activities. Wear good hiking boots or shoes. Bring binoculars, camera, walking stick, Celebrex, and your Peterson Guides. Ironically J.W. Booth's brother's home, Boothden, is about a mile away.

We go to the Normal Bird Sanctuary over and over. There is an education center, a small gift shop and short trails. It is educational, fun and you can get exercise. A great place for a short family outing.

We are regular goers of the Norman Bird Sanctuary's annual "Birds & Breakfast" each year, & choose to regularly invite several friends to join us as our guests. It's a 'rite-of-passage' of sorts... a celebration of Spring's coming. There are several 'breakfast seatings' to accommodate the attendees... & guided 'bird-walks' every few minutes... combined with breathtaking views out over the Meadows & the Atlantic. In short, their buffet-breakfast this year was delicious, & the weather the epitome of a 'Jamestown sparkler'... a term my father taught me as a young boy. It was indeed a fine morning for all... & which only got better!

This sanctuary has miles of trails in their rocky woodland and other areas. This year we found a nice number and variety of fruit-eating birds. Last year we hiked one of the ridges, enjoying the views. There is an entrance fee.

I love the woodsy trails and woodland pond, and especially the panoramic view of Sachuest Beach from the top of Hanging Rock.

Helpful woman at the welcome center who gave us recommendations on what trail to do. Trails are not difficult. We did the hanging rock trail . One area is a little rocky but fine if you have sneakers or hiking shoes. Top of the trail overlooks the ocean and is beautiful. Would be niceto bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the views. There is an admission fee of $6.00 per person which goes towards educational programs. After the easy hike head to Greenvale Vineyard for some wine! Saturdays they have afternoon Jazz.

I love bird sanctuaries and walking trails and while this one has a modest trail fee of six dollars, it still isn't worthwhile. Trails aren't marked - actually they are barely trails - difficult to walk on - just barely a path into the woods. While there is staff on hand to help out - try and get two words out of them. There are too many good and similar places in the area to bother with this one.
