I attended my first production in December 2013 which was Cinderella and I have attended every production since then. The talent is always exceptionable, and the theatre is very historical. Penobscot Theatre Company has provided me with memories that are sure to last a lifetime.

Hmmm… Lines forgotten. That doesn't sound like the professional theatre we run! We had the good fortune of having one of the most excellent stage actors across the country, Mark Chambers, perform in our production of THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP. It was his seventh time performing in this ridiculous favorite. He has performed both roles and we were honored to welcome Mr. Chambers once again to Bangor - where the season before, he wowed in The Woman in Black. We hope to bring him back again for our 42nd Season. He resides in San Francisco. Opposite Mr. Chambers, was company favorite, Dominick Varney who has been performing with Penobscot Theatre Company for close to two decades. THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP was directed by Matt Morrow, one of the country's finest. Mr. Morrow is currently artistic director of Diversionary Theatre in San Diego. Costumes and Set were designed by New York based and nationally celebrated, Lex Liang. You must admit, it was an absolutely gorgeous production. As we hand craft every element of our shows, and since this show had the two actors changing costumes over forty times, we were particularly proud. In fact, we were all particularly proud of the entire production. We feel it was one of our best. As for the wine glass, well… we're sure you'd agree that plastic is better than glass in a theatre. Hopefully the wine itself was tasty.

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to write this lovely review! Wanted to let you know more about the Bangor Opera House! The current building is the second opera house built in this location. The first opera house was built in 1886 and burned down, not during the great Bangor fire in 1911, but three years later in 1914. The current opera house was built in 1920 as an Egyptian Art Deco vaudeville house. Mae West and Oscar Wilde are just two of the many celebrities of the time who performed on the opera house stage, before it was converted into a movie house in 1933.The Bangor Opera House is the last remaining opera house in Bangor. There were once at least seven, all of which sat 2000 people or more.Write to us about backstage tours.

Hi! Thanks for your review! So glad you enjoyed Irma Vep! Just wanted to clarify that we are a professional theatre - the most northeastern year round professional theatre in the U.S. We hire over 100 artists (actors, directors, designers) from around the country, both union and non and have over 10 full-time staff members. It is important to us to make the distinction between professional and community theatre, not only because we pay everyone, but because we approach every component of our work with the depth and specificity which can only be achieved by working on something full-time.

Just saw the production "Honky Tonk Angels" and have to say it was truly fantastic. This company puts on very high quality productions. This was our second show there. We saw "Cinderella" last year which hooked us. We are looking into season tickets or at least go to a few shows each year. Our two teenage kids loved the shows too.

Simply wonderful. The whole house was completely into music. The band, the ladies and the set were fabulous. I plan to see for a 2nd time.

What a fabulous time we had being members of the audience for this great show. All of the actors were excellent in their parts, makeup and their costumes exciting. The songs and singing of the gang, so good. Even though it is a small theatre compared to most, you absolutely had a good time and we all got to participate with the actors during the whole show. The scenery was great and the musicians got you dancing in the aisle. You had the opportunity to buy a bag before going in and it included a newspaper from 40 years ago, toilet paper, little bell to ring, tiny squirt bottle, confetti, card to throw, clapper and tiny flashlight to shine, to use during the songs. I didn't see anyone not having a good time. We all were invited to go up on stage and sing and dance with the finale. Keep up the great work and bring it on, we will be there for future performances. We came out a little horse in the throat from all the singing and laughing we did. I so recommend this theatre, thanks for the great shows.

I have yet to be disappointed by one of PTC's productions. From one man shows like "I am my own wife" to family musicals like Annie and Cinderella to the classics like Our Town, I leave each performance shaking my head at how lucky we are to have such talented performers and producers here in Bangor. I can't wait for Rocky Horror this summer and next season's shows. Also, their children's programming is top notch. My son has attended several of their dramatic academy lesson/camps and has really caught the acting bug.

The Penobscot Theatre is truly a jewel in the crown of the Queen City. A super environment with theater that is consistently exceptional and professional. As a season ticket holder I get see five top flight performances for less than half the cost of one performance at The Boston Opera House. Bari Newport assembles great casts with a medley of performances that are always entertaining.

If you happen to be in Bangor when this enthusiastic and professional company is doing a production, you won't be disappointed. The unique venue of the Bangor Opera House adds to the charm of their productions.
