Surprisingly nice walk through a bird lovers paradise. Does require an entrance fee. I did about 8 miles of hiking through beach and wetland environments.

I just started running here--been missing out! What a lovely run out and back on this trail with all the water and wildlife. Absolutely perfect, and the gravel trail is well groomed for runners/walkers too.

Every year we go to Rehoboth beach and take our bikes - a ride out to Gordon's pond and a bit of bird watching with the WWII observation towers in the distance. Then we head back and ride through town to the Breakwater Junction Trail to Lewes. This past year the Trail has now been completed across the Great Dune into Historic Camp Miles! Wonderful! now you can ride through the Dune on Trails and then back around into Rehoboth. Never ending bike fun. This is a hidden Gem that I hate to brag about because it is so wonderful. I want to keep it to myself!

Gordon's Pond is favorite stopover for migratory waterfowl. We have seen thousands of ducks coming in to feed. This visit the skies were full of snow geese! The state has finished a bike path that loops over to Cape Henelopen. We like the access but a little sorry to see such a high ended semi-paved elevated path instead of the old dike road. But nice for mountain &cross over bikes. For us it's a nice hiking loop trip going up beach from Rehoboth to Cape Henelopen, returning by park trails and Gordon's Pond loop.

From the parking lot at Herring Point to the parking lot at Gordon's Pond and return is 5 miles. What better way to get in your exercise? Watch out for bicyclists, they can sneak up on you! Stay to the right when you walk.

Beautiful new bike trail in Cape Henlopen State Park. They could have made it wider. It really gets crowded with pedestrians and bicycles (they should make a special trail for the pros-they seem to get impatient with the tourists. Also, bicycle etiquette should be posted "on your left/right" needs to be used and understood. That aside, make sure to include this on your to do list. Make sure to take a stroll along the beach-on a nice day when all of the tourists have gone to wherever they go, it is spectacular. Great place to go to get away from it all if you can go during off season when at times, you are the only one there.

Until this year, the trail between Rehoboth and Cape Henlopen that skirts Gordons Pond was walkable, but virtually unbikeable - parts of it went across sand dunes, and other parts were very narrow, with patches of sand and boggy terrain. Now, there's a raised boardwalk on the northern stretch, and the narrow trail has been widened and finished with a nice packed gravel/dirt surface. Delightul biking through salt marsh. Combine it with the Junction and Breakwater trail for a wonderful 2-3 hour loop trip.

The trail around Gordons Pond connects from Cape Henlopen park through to Lewes. The trail travels past marshes and dunes, offering wonderful views and plenty of opportunities to see native plants and wildlife. The trail for the most part is flat with a wonderful bridge through the dunes. On the side near Lewes, riders can get very close to one of the iconic watch towers from WWII. If you stay on the trail past the ferry and cross the bridge, you end up in the heart of Lewes where you can have a lovey snack to celebrate your trip.

We rented a tandem bike from Seagreen Bicycles and found this area to be an excellent place to ride to. Very nice natural scenes.
