Any season, it is fun and very good exercise to walk te trails at the Brandywine Creek Stare Park. I will caution you, take a park map with you, which you can pickup at the Park Ranger station. It will greatly assist in navigating the myriad of trails and get you to the creek-side trails the fastest!

Brandywine Creek State Park is an attraction on its own; however, since the creation of First State National Monument, Delaware’s first National Park Service unit, it has become the appointed administration center for the adjacent Woodlawn Tract, the Wilmington component of that national monument. I went there for both aspects of this park. First, I explored the state park with a visit to the Brandywine Creek Nature Center at 41 Adams Dam Road, the main entrance to the park. The center offers interpretive nature programs periodically. There was nothing scheduled for the day of my visit. I got a trail map and some informational brochures. In the rear of the center is what they call the observation deck. It’s a room with a table, chairs, and ceiling-to-floor windows. There one can observe birds and squirrels dining at the feeders. There is an activity area for youngsters. I spent about 20 minutes there. I decided to participate in a coloring activity. There were three choices: two of owls and one of fall leaves. I did the sheet with leaves. It was relaxing fun. The center also has a small gift shop features environmental books, field guides, shirts, pins, and other items. This park has over 900 acres, most of which is woodlands. It was once a dairy farm owned by the Du Pont family. In 1965, it becoming a state park.It has 14 miles of trails for walking, hiking, running, canoeing, fishing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, wildlife-watching, and photography. There is a section for sledding in winter. During my visit in the last week of October, I experienced peak foliage time as I explored the Hidden Pond Trail and Indian Springs Trail. These trails intersect and overlap for a distance. Then, I drove around to the Thompson’s Bridge section on Route 92. There were more people in that section. Most were walking and hiking. There was a group of fisherman having lunch at the picnic tables. One of main bridges on a trail was heavily damaged by a storm and is cordoned off. It will be replaced in 2015. This a great place to enjoy the outdoors and nature in the fresh air. I enjoyed my visit here. The Brandywine Zoo, Baynard Stadium and the Josephine Fountain are also part of this park. I did not visit those sections on this visit. The adjacent Woodlawn Tract has been kept undeveloped since the William Penn era. It shows what the land was like at the time of the Quaker settlement. It is nice, but there is little to see or do there other than walk, hike, or ride a mountain bicycle. It’s a nice piece of Delaware’s history to be preserved under the wing of the National Park Service as a component of the First State National Monument. For those who participate in the Passport to Your National Parks Program, the location of the passport cancellation stamp is located at the main desk at the Brandywine Creek Nature Center. The stamp reads:First State National Monument - Wilmington, DEIf you found this review helpful, kindly click YES below.

Spent the day at the park walking the trails and enjoying the sunshine. We were accompanied by my sister's dog, who also enjoyed the outing. Many trails located within the park for hiking, running, or walking. All trails are clearly marked. We did have a rather large snake cross our path while walking one of the trails. We stopped and let it pass. I must admit that the snake freaked me out a tad, but I was in his house and he had the right of way in my opinion. Stop by the Brandywine Creek and feed the ducks or just sit on a rock and let nature put on a show for you. There was a 3.00 entry fee when we visited, but it might be waived after Labor Day. .

Nice little park alongside the riverfront. Plenty of Ducks, geese to feed... picnic tables galore. There is a nice little zoo that is very reasonably priced, that could take an hour or 2 to see. There is also a nice playground at the top of the hill perfect for kids of all ages.

My friend and I have visited Brandywine Creek State Park many times. We hike with our dogs there. They have many trails to choose from. Some of them are pretty busy on nice days, but there are also some that go off the beaten path a bit and you won't run into may people. Only thing is that is probably a good idea to check the schedule of events. We ended up showing up one day when they were having mountain bike races on many of the trails. We found ourselves really getting in the way of the racers while hiking with two dogs. Plenty of places for the pooches to lay or play in the creek also.
